  1. i found something that said it was a schrade with the craftsman stamp. apparently they made a blue million of the darn things, i'd love to get a few more at the prices i was seeing on ebay ($15) it's a great knife with it's weight and quality. holds a great edge
  2. i don't know if this is the right place to post this but this is my grandfather's knife that my grandmother just gave me. it imidiately became my favorite knife due to it's heft and just feel of being well made. all i know about it is that it's a craftsman and older than my dad by far. if any1 know anything about it i'd love to hear.
  3. very nice, looks kinda like this guy termite's shop. course he builds mud racing and pull trucks

    air hammer

would it be possible to moddify a bit on one of those air hammer/ chisel things into an actual hammer head deal? kind of like a hand held power hammer?
  6. thanks for the info guys, that last one sounds really cool. once i get my forge back together imm try those out and see which one works best for me
  7. i have an interest in making some pattern welded rings, but first i need to learn how to make a standard ring, if anyone can give me any advice on this it would be much aprecieated.
  8. i was on my way home from DC so i stopped by monger coal and oil in virginia, i got 200ibs of coal for less than 30bucks. That's awsome, in florida it's near $60 for a 90ibs bag. so thanks to the good lady at monger caol. Also every1 post how much their usual rates for coal are.
  9. so i went to the BGOP open forge last night and it was great. those are some awsome members u got there, and $6 for a 50ibs bag of coal is unbelievable. u guys sure are in a great position there, u got a real nice shop. so just keep on forgin' guys (and lady) lols
  10. hey matt im sorry but i can't seem to pm you ill pm gettica but my # is 3213881735 ask for kyle
  11. im going to be in arlington today. i'd love to visit, it's going to be hard to make that meeting though, im staying in the district of the columbia in a more ghetto area, might not be the greatest idea to leave here after dark ill pm both of you my # so we can keep in touch.
  12. that'd be great, we're leaving at like 3am friday morning. but i think we're actually going to the arlington national cemetary, the tomb of the un-named soldier, and the vietnam memorial wall tomorrow or the next day. my dad says it's something important to see b4 i enlist and i just think it's plain important. ill keep u updated on what's going on, where exactly in arlington are you and is it easily accesable by metro (1 1/2miles or less of walking from the station, whiney little brother)or do i need to take a cab?
  13. so i went to the national cathedral... WOW just WOW, the iron work is amazing, i can't wait until i've been doing this for long enough to be able to do anything remotely like that. Even the sign holders for the tours were wrought iron, both in the metal and in the worked sense. I've also found out that we're going to the caverns in virginia on the way home so if there are any smiths located near any of the caverns or between them i'd love to hear from ya
  14. oh cool, any working exhibits or exhibits of old swords, daggers, that kind of thing?
  15. i haven't been on in awhile but i am on a family vacation in DC, i was wondering if anyone knows any smiths in the area or between here and florida. i have a mentor but i would love to visit another smith and see how they do things. also if anyone knows where to find some blacksmithing exhibits in the smithsonian that would be great.
  16. just little pancakes because i can't figure out how to hold them to make any other shape at this point. And the bearings are about as big a a nucklejoint on your ring finger. they're out of a CV joint on a 4wheeler
  17. so im trying to forge some ball bearings flat so that i can weld them together for knives. my problem is holding them to heat for forgewelding. i figured out to hold them in they fire, for flattening with a sacraficial pair of tongs and just dealing with heating up both the tongs and the bearing. the problem is holding them to heat for welding, the bearing sticks to the tong and i have to weld the bearings together/ to the tongs and then i have to breakthem off the tongs and the weld doesn't come out right because i can't hit it hard enough or completely ruin the tongs. anybody have any ideas? im had to just stop forging i was getting so mad at it
  18. i would like to make a new pair of tongs like a farrier's fire tongs. i would find them in the blueprints section but i can't find it. could someone tell me how to make them or PM me?
  19. very nice, what did u use to treat the gaurd? just an oil covering?
  20. ilike the pattern... looks like wood grain, very cool. also te design of the sword it'self looks like a giant prison shank lol
  21. i actually ended up posting the knife on etsy.com. this website seems to be a more one off friendly site with prices reflecting that. and yes it is rediculousto have to pay to pass your senior project. please crutique my knife and state what i could do better next time. (this is a link to my store on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/KassikForge )
  22. very nice on work on the forging/ filing, to harden it to any kind of edge you need to use ice cold superquench andheat it to between dull red and cherry red. another option is to get some of the carbon buildup from inside an electric motor, heat the knife (not sure of the color) and shove it in a cup of this carbon.this should cause it to raise the actual carbon content itself, of course i have not done this process but am currently reading up on it. but for that knife i wuould just ry the superquench.
  23. my problem is it is a kind of forced donation, any money you make during your senior praject HAS to donated to the senior project scholorship fund... or you fail, which means you fail highschool. i was told for a personal experience project with a finished piece to sell i needed to make 200 dollars, the knife is not worth 200 dollars, ill put it on ebay to see how much i can get but the rest has to come out of my own pocket.
