  1. Thank you Steve, and I know 400 is a lot but it also won't be right next to it. I'm gonna figure some stuff out for it and do tweaks when I get home.
  2. Yeah! That sounds pretty good. I'd love to come by and see it. I should be home early December if everything going according to plan.
  3. Pennsylvania would be correct, Dale. Thank you for the link and I'll be sure to check them out!
  4. I plan on using charcoal most likely. And a JABOD would be good to start and tweak it, I'm just not too sure as to what I want the outer walls and stand to be for the final version. Steel, maybe? Plus how's the design of it look too? Seem practical enough? When I make a final version of the model, I'll be adding the dimensions of it too.
  5. A forge I plan on building when I get home. I can make tweaks and modifications as needed. This is just a rough concept. The air supply is going to be a 442 CFM centrifuge fan with a charcoal filter(that's whats on the back of the fan itself) and it has a speed selector switch so it's adjustable. It will go from ducting into a pipe that will hopefully be able to be placed at the bottom to supply the forge with the airflow it needs. If I do run the piping down the center like that, holes will be drilled to allow the airflow to go through but I'm not sure how that would effect how it's displaced through the forge itself, or how long the length of the pipe leading to it would effect it as well. I.e. whether or not it would be getting sufficient air supply. The inside is lined with firebrick(the brown-yellow inside), I'm just not sure what to build the outside or base from for it to be the best or what would be the best for it. Any suggestions?
  6. I've been looking things up that I can make to help with hammer control and other basics
  7. I planned on starting with just making small items and little ornaments(I guess that's what I'd call them?) to hone in the basics of smithing then slowly start learning how to get into bladesmithing and some tools. But I would need to get more equipment for larger stuff, I'm aware. And as for the forge, I have the basic concept of what I want to build for it. It's all designed and everything. Just need to put some last details on it.
  8. I have 3 different types of tongs picked out. And those are actually very good Ws to start off with. I appreciate the input!
  9. I'll definitely have to check out the TPAAAT. And I'll have to add the rounding hammer and drilling hammer to my list of things to find. I should have my forge designed and done tonight so I can get that up then. MOD NOTE: There is no need to quote the immediately preceding comment. Please read The Quote Feature.
  10. So I've always been into blacksmithing but never had the chance to get into it like I want to. I'm currently undergoing military training out of state but when I get home I want to start the craft. I've been entirely emmersed in videos and reading these forums lately, so I have a somewhat idea of where to start and what to get. I have a list of equipment and tools to get starting out (most of which I'm going to try and find but if I can't then I'm gonna have to order it new(some of the safety gear I will be getting new regardless)). I also plan on building my own forge, which I am currently drawing up and using a designing software for. Any other tips? I can post a list of all of the things I'm going to try and get--maybe that could help point me in the right direction too? I'm pumped to start.
