  1. Got a laboratory oven today from up at the John brown university in Siloam, a friend of mine picked it up an brought it to me!

it’s got a temperature controller on the bottom and a thermometer on top,

the walls are pretty thick I think some kinda ceramic?

anyways it works an it only cost $60 bucks, it runs on 115v and has a small footprint

they said they think it goes up to 450 F but I don’t have a manual so I dunno for sure, I’ve plugged it in an turned it to the highest setting so I’ll know shortly

I thought it might come in handy as a tempering oven for an adze or tomahawk?

I dunno if it will work for that or not but i figured for the price it was worth trying!

Worst case scenario, if it won’t work for a tempering oven then I got a fancy oven to dry out welding flux and keep welding rods in!:P

I was too slow they had another one that could go over 1000 F for $160 but it done sold,

  2. Lol Rojo,

you made me look up Oklahoma, Wiki says it’s 68595 square miles!

    Shaina,

I’ve wondered the same thing about how people from here fly over an travel all over Europe, I guess i didn’t realize that everything was smaller and closer together there! on the world map it always seemed bigger to me for some reason,

the I got to see a lot of countries when I was in the navy but the only ones in Europe I got to go was Spain and Greece

Jerry I didn’t realize Alaska was that big a place!

Now I’m wondering what the CFM and static pressure of a 1941 vacuum cleaner was.

There’s an older professional smith named Bill Fraboda up in westville north of me

that told me that some kinda older vacuums where all the craze decade’s ago for hooking up to forges I don’t remember what brand exactly but he told me they were variable speed and I think he said they were DC motors

but it’s been years and I don’t remember exactly what he said

either way I wonder if that didn’t spark off form that popular mechanics article?

I subscribe to their magazine currently but I’m lucky if there’s one article in it worth reading,

They are mostly advertising for sale stuff now days,

Is this getting off 'the Beaten Path

    Nah!!!

i yacked with Thomas earlier on the phone!

he had assured me that he’s still got an appetite for real food! as of today!

infact he said he wouldn’t mind a bite of BBQ at the B&B joint up in Fayetteville just east of me,

he said something about he’d rather have it in person than have it shipped out to him! lol

  5. Awesome Scott!

im glad to hear that they have made it to NC!

there’s two color Schemes of the cards I sent out and I just picked the colors at random so I hope everyone likes what they got! Lol

So far I’ve only had one card returned to sender out of a crate load and it was to someone here local to me, I don’t know what went wrong but I’ll call them up and see what’s up with their address

  6. after forging a few s hooks

The First tools I would forge for a solid fuel forge like your wanting to use

would be a coal rake, fire poker, and handle for a watering can,

you will want the s hooks to hang these tools on the forge,

the coal rake you will be using constantly

the watering stick you will want to control your fire so you don’t burn up a lot of fuel unnecessarily

these will teach you some basic forging skills and give you the tools to learn fire management with,

Also making all these doesn’t require anything but a hammer anvil and something to cut with,

you don’t even need tongs unless you have some to start with, because you can make these fire tools from longer stock

  7. Oh it’s great! It’s a handy little dude to have around the forge!

So far I’ve used the dish form to do sleigh bells and it worked awesome!

I’ve used some of the half rounds just for straightening up some tools too

i haven’t tried the spoon forms yet but that’s on the to do list

  8. Awesome! I can’t wait to see it!

yeah it’s a funny story how we came to the decision to buy those cards!

on a side note I’d thought I’d mention that the cards we sent out are designed and printed by a small business in Ohio using paper products produced by another small business!

Which I thought was pretty cool!

I like to support small businesses whenever and wherever I get the chance, even if it costs a little more to shop with them,

    mom an pop shops Rock!
