Test firing of a two burner propane forge. Next step is to cut the doors in both end caps and then line with Kaowool and coat with ITC 100
  3. Test firing of the burners of a two burner gas forge we are building . Next is to cut out the doors on the two end caps and add kaowool and ITC 100.
  4. I personally think it is way overpriced. I just purchase the cast iron firepot and make my own forge table. after all it is only plate with a hole cut in to fit the firepot and legs welded on. If you want you can weld on some sides to help contain the coal. Harley
  5. Last weekend we started Friday Night Forge Lite here at Black Dog Forge. An informal gathering for smiths of all skill levels from novice to pro.If there is enough interest and attendees we can make this a regular weekly event. The idea is to learn , teach, exchange ideas and generally have a good time bashing hot iron. The forge is set up with an anvil station on either side so two smiths can work at the same time. There is also a portable forge that can be set up just outside the smithy door. If you are interested in joining in please call me to let me know you plan to attend. Mark 978-249-6404 call before 8:00PM please. or send me an email, blackdog.forge@verizon.net, There is no cost. Safety gear , particularly safety glasses , is required! Black Dog Forge is located in N. Central Massachusetts in the town of Royalston.

  12. I just wait until my wife brings food to me in the smithy.
  13. My understanding is that you "ring" the anvil once for each year of the life of the person who has passed. IN other words if he/she passed at the age of 80 then you would ring the anvil 80 times.

  17. Peter Wright. Weight marking 1 - 3 - 4 ....200 lb. The yellow stuff is the remnants of 3 coats of paint I wire brushed off today. In the dim light of the shop it looked as though it was all removed but the cameras flash reveals all.
  18. Very Nice ! I hope to someday have enough time to get serious about bladesmithing.

  20. Hi Mark, We just got another 18 inches of snow for groundhog day. They are forecasting yet another storm for Sat. We haven't seen temps up to the freezing point in I don't know how long. Today I had to shovel off two roofs and Sat. I need to shovel off the roof of our house. There have been multiple roof failures all around the region in the past week. There is nowhere left to plow/push the white stuff. I broke my plow off the frame and had to weld it back on two weeks ago while lying on my back in -7ºf, my neighbor broke his plow last weekend. Now, we New Englanders may be a hardy bunch but enough is enough. One thing is for sure....you won't hear me griping about the heat in July or August. Check out my photos posted today on Face Book . search : Black Dog Forge Blacksmith Shop. We'll get through this with flying colors. This weather will only make us stronger. Come on Spring.Just wait till this stuff melts....whole different set of issues. Mark A.K.A Harley
  21. Groundhog Day 2011. It's getting so I may only have access to the smithy by snowshoe. Come On Spring!
