  1. thank you Yuppiejr !! going by the seller.. he says it has good rebound I haven't seen it in person or tested it .. what are your thoughts to a fair value ?? JT sorry I was just informed that this anvil sold today.. JT
  2. Hello I'm looking at this coach makers anvil.. the owner says he can find no markings on it.. its a massive 405 lbs. it has two lines going across the face that can be seen in the photos.. should this be a concern ?? its said to just be the way the face was welded to the base in three pieces ?? thanks for any comments !! JT
  3. oh... that does suck.. and was what I thought would happen in my case.. especially when a buyer with cash in his hand came in and wanted it while I was talking to her on the phone.... I called her back the next morning thanking and praising her for what she did.. and she told me the owner of the store did the same thing !! he praised her and told her she did the right thing and that's how he wants his business ran !! your word is your word and stand by it no matter what.. he told her he didn't care if the guy that was there had tried to offer more for it.. don't ever take it and keep your word !!... that means more to him then the money!! its very nice to see some people still have strong ethics !! JT
  4. yes its not one you can pick up and move around without help !! lol
  5. its a Peter Wright and marked 2 2 10 which makes it a 290 pounder !! Thank you BIGGUNDOCTOR for your advice !! JT
  6. here are a few more photos I took today.. I have a question.. it now has a greasy coating on it... should I just leave it or should I thoroughly clean and wire wheel it ?? thanks, JT
  7. Hello Yuppiejr !! thank you !! yes there really are still some great people that stand by their word and I gave her real phrase for being such a stand up person even while having a person standing in front of her with cash in his hand wanting to buy it within seconds after she answered my call.. but told him I was first in line !!! I will take your idea to heart.. sounds like great karma !! JT thanks John !! yes its a nice story about nice people... just think how the world would be if everyone was like this... JT thank you Tubalcain2 !! I am pretty proud to own it !! I'm new to this and its my second Anvil, I bought them both this year. my first is a early 112 lb. Fisher in nice condition with excellent rebound .. its a bit ironic as they both were exactly the same price !! $375.00 JT
  8. Hello j.morse !! yes I am blown away with it and couldn't believe the size and condition of it when looking at it in person !! they had another, possibly Fisher anvil.. I didn't even bother to look it over it was about 100 lbs. or so with chipped up edges and wanted $275.00 for that one and only $375.00 for this one.. it didn't make much sense to me and I didn't ask !! lol no it wasn't here in Michigan it was in North East Ohio... JT Hello Peter Bui !! thank you !! not many up here this size and condition even close to this price that I have found or seen either... but you never know what's lurking around out there.. just lucky enough to be in the right spot at the right time on this one... JT
  9. thanks Kevin !! I've been looking for awhile now and have hemmed and hawed at a few nice anvils at much higher prices only to have the sell before I could make up my mind... this one was only listed for a few hours before I saw it and I called and left a message saying I wanted it, and keep calling every couple minuets the next morning before they opened until they answered the phone.. well needless to say its mine now !! sooo.. did that beat up old vise sell for what he wanted ?? JT
  10. Thank you Frosty !! I've been looking and looking and had to move fast on this one !!! JT
  11. Thank you Gergely !! that's the same thing I though in the photos.. but they had it listed at 300?? pounds .. when I got there and saw it in person I just said "oh my god " !! with a very big smile !! JT
  12. I bought a anvil today and will post more photos tomorrow when its light out.. these are from the add .. it was a 9 hour round trip to get it... there were 6 other guys trying to get it, but I was the first to reply.. so the lady held her word and saved it for me until I got there... even thought... while I was talking to her on the phone a guy came in with cash in his hand and wanted to buy it but she held her word to me that it was mine !! its so nice to see some people's word still means something these days !! not to often does this happen anymore... it turned out to be a Peter Wright England 2 2 10 I believe it makes it 290 lbs. its about 32 3/4" X 5" X 13 1/4" and was $375.00 a mere $1.29 a lb. !!
  13. Hello, I don't know a lot about anvils... I'm looking at this anvil for sale.. I don't know the maker and the seller doesn't know either.. he is trying to help a friend sell it he says its to heavy to pick up and would take two or three people to do it.... I think it may be around 300 lbs. its 31 1/2" long X 4 1/2" wide X 12 1/2" tall... it has this scar/groove on the face.. is this bad ?? should I pass on this anvil and keep looking for a better one ?? thanks JT
  14. thank you BGD !! I have a early 112 lb. fisher that I paid $375 for a little while ago.. just been looking at larger ones since I bought this one.. and this large boy caught my eye... JT hello VaughnT !! I understand about getting busy we all do... but when someone advertises something for sale and you get several responses of interest and phone calls you would expect to get a reply from the seller at some point... I have a couple other nice anvils I'm interested in besides this one.. both these sellers answer my responses every time I ask a question ... ones a 340 lb. and a 440 lb. with a original base to the anvil.. both good anvil's neither is a fisher... and both are about half or less $ then the fisher...kinda on the fence with this one.... JT
  15. the seller seems to be a jerk.. doesn't answer emails, and then when he did... sent me his phone number but doesn't answer that either or return a call ...
  16. thank you ThomasPowers !! this one isn't cheap in my opinion.. I believe I will pass on it, I have a couple others I'm leaning toward.. JT
  17. thank you njanvilman !! I'm not sure on this one either.. he's at $500 and sounds like he's open to a offer, thinking about passing on it.. John
  18. thank you Ridgewayforge !! I have three I'm looking at right now A 131 lb.HB, a 340 lb.Trenten and this Fisher.. I like all three but the two larger ones I am more interested in if the prices are fair but I'm not sure what prices to expect to pay for them... thanks, John thank you njanvilman !! I did see photo with a couple of these in your museum last night while looking around to find out what this was... do you mean the $$ this seller is asking is generally the going price ?? or what every any seller is asking at anytime is generally the going price ?? do these turn up often ?? thanks, John thank you John McPherson !! I have looked at some of the anvils Matchless Antiques has for sale and have talked to Steve a couple times lately.. I didn't think to ask his opinion on this one ... thank you , John
  19. Hello njanvilman !! thank you for letting me know the year !! i's not mine yet, just looking at it at the moment .. its about 40 miles from me and I haven't checked the rebound on it yet.. from what you can see in the photos .. in your opinion does it look to be in pretty good condition ?? thanks again, John

  21. Hello ! I am looking at a early Hay Budden 131 lb. anvil with the serial number 7185 it looks to be in pretty good shape can anyone give a the date of this serial number ?? I have tried to find the AIA book at local books stores with no luck.. thank you for any help with this.. John
  22. thank you Frozenforge !! that makes me feel better again about this anvil !! I thought it was right... I truly appreciate your help with this !! JT thank you again Fatfudd !! I will also have to pick up a copy of Anvils in America !! JT
  23. Mmmm.. I don't know much about anvils.. but I have read on here that the later Trenton Anvils were a two piece Anvil, a wrought Iron base and a tool steel top and was Arc welded together at the waist at the factory... I'm not sure about the Trenton stamp.. but the serial number and weight locations are where the Trenton's are stamped.. so is this a Trenton ?? is it the way it came from the factory ?? has it been repaired ?? thanks, JT
