  1. I went to KMS tools (here in Canada) and bought a GENTEC gas saver Model 100QF-Y for $50. Canadian! This is CHEAP! It works very well . I went and added about $80 in Quick Release Connectors (only makes sence at this point) so I can change applications out quickly. All my setups invoulve the quick release fittings for ease and speed of setup time. The Gas Saver is absoultly the only way to go. I do a lot of Gas Welding and Brazing myself and it would be insane to waste presious gas (unless your name is Standard oil Corp) by re-setting and re-lighting my torch. Look around for KMS tools around your area, if you dont have one, find a good tool distributer that sells tools cheap... you know... Discount tools. Hope this helps:D
  2. :D Hey gang, sorry I havent been around lately. Had some back sugery done but I'm back now and eager to get back in touch! ;)

  10. :o Well it had to happen sooner or later... you know... that white $#!* that comes every year. We just got 18 inches dumped on us. Here's my dog in the white stuff this morning on Christmas eve 2008... Yep... he's a 90 pound (BIG DOG) pup and he IS STANDING in the snow. Hope your in warmer weather. Mery Christmas Yall! From CANADA (B.C.):D
  11. I noticed that quite a few of you have your picture in the upper left corner of your threads. Now I went in and edited my profile and uploaded my picture thinking that this will do the trick. Guess what.... It did nada. So.... how do you do this paticular form of magic?
  12. Welcome to the forum, your gunna like it. I'm originally from the BIG D myself (Dallas) But I'm sorta stuck here in Canada at least for another month (he he he ). I came here (on this web site) to get some sound advice and I get it EVERYTIME I log on. There are nothin but GREAT folks here and YES, Your GUNNA LIKE IT HERE. WELCOME! :)
  13. Found them on the internet. Seems to be an inexpensive Mig welder (under $400) for there 120V model. Comes with a 5 year warranty.... there higher end 180 model sells for under $700 and again a 5 year warranty. Looks good to me but I'm one of those guys that have to have the BRAND name so I have a Lincoln... but it's like I said.. looks good to me. They also make several portable sand blasters air compressers and power washers.
  14. Good advice Paragon and ted.... I went out and got the Mig first only because I used them and stick welders at Gm doing shut downs and re-tooling. I just reciently started doing brazing and gas welds and if I had to do it over again I would have bought the O/A before the mig. Dont get me wrong.. I love my mig but the O/A is Sooooo much more virsitle.
  15. I want to thank both IRNSRGN and Mr Bi11 for there imputs. I have been considering buying a Plasma cutter and though I sence a diference in there opinions of the plasma cutter, the both of them have layed out very inteligent assessments of the cutter both in principle and application. I have to admit though, now that I have read there commentaries I am sure that I still need to look into the cutter a bit more before deciding weather to buy one or not. I do want to cut faster, straighter and more accuratly but is there health risks that I should consider that are more demanding with the plasma cutter than over the conventional Oxy-Asc cutting? Mmmm I do use common sense but is that enough with the plasma? I really want to hear more;)
  16. Hey Thomas, I'm from Dallas... actually Oak Cliff (if you know Dallas) But I've lived all over Texas. Just sold my place in Washington last week (Point Roberts) and I'm currently finishing up loose ends here in BC Canada then it's back to Texas for me. Were gonna buy some property in Corpus and move my Company down there. Always nice to here from the lone star state! Oh, the Spool gun is for my Lincoln 180 (exclusively). Seen some at a KMS store for a Miller and they wanted about $200 but looked cheap to me...came in a plastic bag (he he he). Now dont get me wrong... this aint for HEAVY DUTY USE... but for what I need it for it's OK and rated for Medium duty
  17. Thanks For the nickle idea, what I've done works but I think I am gonna try your idea on the next project. The wife wants to make a second coffee table like this one (similar not identical) when this one is complete. I want to see what else works.:D
  18. Well, I have finally gotten the ornimintal pig iron project under way. After watching the videos that George Goehl has out brazing techniques for metal sculpture using the oxygen acetylene torch I seen how easy it really is. I got some 3/32 fluxed brazing rod and away I went. I'm about 1/2 way done with the project and will have it complete (if all goes well) by the end of this week-end. George really makes it easy to understand, the hard part was laying out all them PESOS for the tanks,torch,hoses...etc...etc... But after the pain wore off from going into my sneak account (the one the wife don't know about) I found myself having the time of my life. My first attempt wasnt too bad but that was all practice before I really got started. The welds are pretty strong. I droped one of the pieces after I completed it and the weld held better than the factory portion; the pig iron broke on one of them curley q things and I had to repair that myself, but like But like I said... My weld didnt even as much as get out of square. Pictures are comming soon! :D :D
  19. Came accross a good web site where you can pruchase videos on how to braze. The best part is this guy also has some short vidios on the subject which are very usefull and are absoultly FREE. You can go to Oxygen acetylene short videos to see the many shoet videos he has that is for free. You can also go to his home page showing the videos he has for sale at brazing techniques for metal sculpture using the oxygen acetylene torch. THis guy is easy to understand and the videos are of the highest quality. I really hope some of you drop by his site and check it out. He has a little thing in one of the videos called "THe Gas Saver" he said there kinda pricy but I found one at KMS tool supplys for under $50.00. Anyway.. hope you enjoy the info :D
  20. Yes stixman is motovated! I went to Oxygen acetylene short videos and seen what I need to know. There are a lot of short clips that are very instructional. This guy is really good. I bought my VICTOR medium duty torch with a cutting head, 3 torches and a rosebud. Has the built in back flash arrestors.. you know... the whole 9's.Paid $339 for the kit. Got a deal on tanks too and I'm getting them on Tuesday. Oxy and ace both for only $300. There a year old and the guy never even filled them. You should check the videos out there on the link above... there really worth seeing. And as allways.... YOU GUYS ARE GREAT! I know I came to the right place when I loged on here and you guys have proven it every time I log in. THANKS AGAIN!:D:D
  21. NICE comeback Woody! Say, If I were to BRAZE the pig iron with the suggested nickle, what gas would I use? Anyone know? Been looking at web sites and have gotten a lot of info but I need to find out what gas 'cause the sites I'm looking at are a bit obscure on the subject.
  22. THanks for the brazing solution .. I was leaning that way myself. Now to clarify for some of you who think that this "FURNITURE" project will hold a lot of weight... NO! It's for a coffee table. There will be wodden legs... the iron is ornimantal only. It will skirt around the legs. I'll show you all how it comes out when I finnish. Bought my 1st victor torch today and will get the tanks next week. Now all I got to do is learn how to braze. so if anyone can give me some good tips.. I'm all ears. I'm reading up on it as we speak. Anyway this will be a great way to learn. And again.. THANKS to all for your intrest and advice!:D:D:D
  23. Its for a furniture project, don't think the JB will cut it. Anyway... I'm going to be brave and give it a shot. Not sure exactly what I'll try first but I'll hit the garage tommorrow and see what I will see. I will let you boys know what the heck happens and what (if anything) works. Maybe someone out there will throw me a line before then. :o
  24. I checked out the 3M system that Chris put on the board and I will tell you this... I am sold. I aint rich but I think this is what I want. Were re-locating (back to Texas) and have plans to make a welding shop (of sorts) in the back of the house (maybe convert the garage) and I think this is what we will get. Yep.. it's a lot of Pesos but I only got one of me and one of my wife to go around. Thanks Chris for this info.. I put the site on my favorites. I'll let you know when I get it.. should be in a couple of months.:D
  25. Okee-Dokeee, here is a pic of the un-named metal. Take a gander and pour you vast knowlage into my very greatfull coconut (otherwise known as my brain) 'Cause I really wanna get this project right for the wife. The rewards could cause me to grin during the day.. he he he
