  1. Hi New2BS, I just bought one the is somewhat like the one you posted for $35 and it needs repair in the jaw area. Went to Anvilfire and found an article that heiped me date the vise and give me an idea what I have.I got lucky and did not get hurt. If your not worried about it being sold you may want to do some home-work first and not gamble the way I did. Like I said I did it backwards and got lucky. Good Luck
  2. Hi Bill, I may have the answer to your question but it's two pages long. Sent it to Bobby today but your the info officer and I would like your in-put. I sure Bobby would not like it posted anywhere since I did it for his news-letter but you are the info officer as I said. Your call. Test fire my E-Mail and I'll send it to you. Drag it through the garden and help me shake it out. We have a little time before the news-letter comes out if you think it needs anything. David
  3. Agree with no drywall. I have a brake-drum forge that I use for public demos and I used a lid from a 55gal drum. By cutting two small crosses in the face of the lid it gave me 8 small tabs to bend down into the fire pot and that holds it steady. The tabs have melted some and made for weird clinkers but you said this was a short term fix. Hope this helps. Happy Forging and SAFE PASSAGES
  4. WOW GLAD YOUR HERE Please post if you EVER come anywhere near Va. Nice work indeed. Welcome and SAFE PASSAGES
  5. I bought one that was painted, black, and a friend just hit the top with a belt sander 100 grit said that that way iI would not heat it up and weaken the tool steel face. the horn cleaned itself up after about three trips to it. Many happy days with your new anvil. SAFE PASSAGES
  6. I looked long and hard at the candle holder and can't find anything wrong with it. But if your not happy with it ,you can send it to me,post paid of course and I'll put my name on it.
  7. Hi Brian, Saw that you stopped by my profile.I'm a carpenter by trade and anybody that's into woodworking and taking a child fishing has to be O.K in my book.Just started blacksmithing about a year ago and hope to post pics of my soon to be finished shop and forge-work soon. Stay Tuned and SAFE PASSAGES

  8. Sorry you couldn't make it. Lot's of new faces and really good to see the old hands again.I'm like you and really looking forward to March also.Question? Would you mind if I TRIED to copy the alter set that you posted? My wife loves those pieces and I would tell everyone that the design came from you. Not back in the shop until mid-week and if you would rather I didn't you want hurt my feelings. Not going to be easy at my skill level anyway.Let me know. Safe Passages
  9. Thanks for the heads up. just got through changing that
  10. Hello Everyone,Found this site over a year ago and have been lurking some. About the same time I started studing this craft. Also new to posting things,be nice.O.K.? My names David, a carpenter by trade, and I've found a great hobby in blacksmithing. I joined a local blacksmithing group in Nov. of 2008 and I'm so glad I did. It seems that most any smith you meet is more than willing to share what he knows. You guys seem to follow suite. The group I joined has a monthly newsletter and I've been writing a"Green Coal Report"For them since Jan. 09 trying to share what they have shared with me. Old Dominion Blacksmith Assoc. is the site if you have time to check it out. Be aware that I seem to have more questions than answers, but will help anyone I can. Thanks David
  11. You can still come tomorrow even with-out those pieces. Showed my wife the photo's. She put her hands on her hips, that means I better listen, then TOLD me to go build a fire. We where both impressed, nice work indeed. Hope we don't have to wait till August to see you again? SAFE PASSAGES
  12. Hi Paul, Nice looking first shop and forge work. Brick floor is something I'm adding to my shop, even as we speak. Enough with the nice stuff. From the photo's you may want some air space behind the brick around your forge. The O.S.B board on the walls has a high flame-spread, when used on walls. Not being mean but I get a lot of work repairing fire damage. Many happy trips to the anvil and keep posting.
  13. The Senior Member may be right about the August event.Hope he gives some clues as to the pieces posted in the ODBSA current-news. Nice work indeed.
