  1. I figure so and would like to see for myself but if I knew what brand they were that would give me a good heads up! The Double horned Hoffman anvil looks real purty.
  2. Yesterday I was looking at the Mcmaster Carr website and thought i would see if they carried anvils, to my surprise they did. all of the way up to 210lb Smith not Farrrier style for roughly 800$. I phoned the up and they could not tell me what brand anvil they were or wether they were cast or otherwise. I asked if they were north American made and was told they are made in the good ol USA. I dont know wether this is a fact or if they are made in China or India and have an American label on them. I would prefer to buy product from North America. Anyone know by chance what make they usually carry? Or has anyone ever purchased and anvil through them before? It is not a bad price for that heavy an anvil.
  3. hi Willy, thanks for the heads up, where in Brantford were they? moving them can be pretty tricky but it might be worth checking out.
  4. No problem I know, they seem to have some ok stuff but i find that the quality of some of their handtools are substandard. hope you find some goodies at Wards.
  5. Ward Farrier Supply 8351 7 Hwy, Rockwood, ON Telephone : 519-856-4444 i dont know if they have a website. but if you Bob or his wife are both vedry helpfull and might be able to help you out a bit.
  6. Well depending on what you want and what you need you might find some goodies at Wards Farrier supply n rockwood just outside of guelph. they are mostly a Farrier supply but Bob Ward does carry some stuff that is usefull to the Blacksmith. the only places i am realy familiar with are Professional, Wards and THAK. keeping my eye on this thread, i would love to know if there is as good smith supply in ontario myself.
  7. Hello, try looking up David Roberston, i have one of his hammers and i love it. i am thinking of upgrading the controls to the coleman style. also i looked at it a few times and i am not sure if it is still on Kijiji but if you look under the london Kijiji there was a 300# Beaudry Mech hammer it was on Kijiji for the lonest time. if you search for the Hawkeye powerhammer i know there was one for sale in Orangeville last fall. it may still be around. Good luck!
  8. is there anything in particular your looking for?
  9. was workng in the forge last night, only 10 x 12 feet with room for a 100lb P hammer. i had been forging some old drive shaft in to flat stock for a really heavy duty Barn door hinge. i had the coal forge ripping hot so the steel would move and i smelled a little burning but thought it was a pc. of steel that fell on the wood floor which i had picked up and then quenched. Anyway i got the steel good and hot and walked over to the powerhammer, started to draw the material out when the room got really bright (it was 9:00 at night) looked over my shoulder and "the roof, the roof was on fire" just like the song. Managed to douse the first flames with te quench bucket which bought me just enough time to run to the house and get the hose to water down the roof and walls for about an hour. had to check my pants when all was done but the building was still there this morning. Frosty i dont remember working with you before but MORON fits my description as of last night.
  10. when i was 18 years old I knew i had better get some kind of skill set welding or farrier school. My buddy was a farrier and I love horses so went with it. strangely enough in school i was more drawn to working in the fire so I'd skip out on the occasional hoof trim and work in the shop I love the magic of the forge when time feels no longer existant and there is only you and your tools. A wife and 3 children slowed me down a little but managed to get a job working in a large automotive plant in the forging department. Stuck around long enough to go on a few company paid trips to learn in Japan more about forging and finally i am back to forging by hand and working under horses... sorry i have to go blow my nose, i am getting all emotional!
  11. Tom Ellinghausen who is the sales rep for QFORM is pretty decent fellow, I have had a free trial from Tom, the QFORM has some little programming peculiarities but once you get the hang of them you canso lots of crazy stuff with it. Deform is good but very expensive, it has some cool features like roll forming sims and machining sims. i know that they are working on a heat treat program as well. try NagForge as well they are popular in Japan buthow strong their support in North America is i dont know. hope you find what you need!
  12. Hello, here are some links to a few good sites i have always found helpfull. Forums Simple Air Hammer hope it helps!
  13. Michael T i will get some pics and email to you this weekend, the gibs are the slides that hold the RAM in position. i will get some good pics of the entire unit for you.
  14. http://www.artistblacksmith.com/airhammerforsale.htm here is Davids website address, his hammer is well built, David is very helpfull. If you need I can probably get some pics of the Ram and the gibs with the piston linkage whatever you want to see.
  15. Wolf Mtn i have a David Robertson hammer, while it is not an industrial hammer it is built very well and gobbles up the steel very well. works good with different tooling as well. it doesnt require a substantial base to use but it will definitely keep most of the energy going into the workpiece and you will get more bang for your buck with it having the base
  16. Really beautifull, nice clean lines. where could i find more info abou Cryo treating?
  17. Canuck where in the owe sound area? I am in Neustadt just below Hanover. David Robertson is in Cargill area just outside of Walkerton, he has lots of courses and is great to talk to you may already know him. I just bought one of his Powerhammers and am looking forward to getting it running. here is Davids link www.artistblacksmith.com
  18. the professional in Orangeville sells really nice firepots anvils and other blacksmithing tools as well as coal. they are mainly a Farrier supply store but do have a pretty good selection of stuff.I priced out one of their Firepots at 290$ Rob Martins (Thak) was around 600$, in ontario it is really worth it to go to the store or phone Professional Farrier Supply
  19. THAK the Blacksmith Ontario Floradale 2282 Floradale Rd 519-669-0721 Blacksmith Supplies: Coal 70 lb bag Quality smithing coal 1-14 bags $30.00 per bag 15-29 bags $27.50 per bag 30 + bags $26.00 per bag
  20. Thank you ApprenticeMan. The W360 comes in round stock up to at least 200mm in OD, Sorry I:rolleyes: use the metric system all of the time. The YXR3 also comes in that large an OD but I know you can get as small as 40mm diameter. All of the forging tools I use are in between those diameters but you could probably get smaller. It is expensive material but great hot and cold work steel.
  21. Hello I am new to the Forum. I have enjoyed viewing the site for a long time, but I figured it might be worth mentioning some different Tool Steels which I have had an opportunity to work with. in My department we have used lots of H13 for our forging dies and it is a good material but I have found that W360 from Bohler Uddeholm is absolutely amazing. it has a higher toughness and strength than any H13 but also reaches about 58HRC. my normal production runs with H13 would enable me to forge approximately 8000pc. before the tool needs to be reworked by my Tool and Die crew whereas the W360 will run well over 60,000pc. for the exact same tool. absolutely nothing comes even close. another good steel is YXR3 & YXR33 from Hitachi metal. they are expensive metals but when I design a die that is going to be exposed to high tonnage, High workpiece temperatures and high die temperatures this is what we use. the stuff is indestructable. sorry for the long winded comment, forgive me I'm just the new guy!
