  1. The site without snow is Big Sky Montana, and with the snow is Jackson Hole Wy. Big Sky was in Oct. and Jackson in Jan. It snow a little everyday in Jackson and only got up to about 8 degrees F. Beautiful sunny days made is pretty darn nice. I use my trailer for on site work. Band saw, portable welder gen, work bench with vise, air compressor, sometimes plasma. If it's railings or more than 2 sets of fireplace doors I use the trailer for install. If one or 2 sets of fireplace doors I will take them in the truck. The Jackson home had 3 sets of doors, 2 smaller ones, 36" x 36" and one set 3.5' x 8'. Roses on one, pine cones and branches on another and then an aspen grove on the large set.
  2. Well Grant, When my wife left me and a few days later an old friend called me to see if I was interested in a 2b I said to myself, since no one else was there to talk to, "If I can't have a wife I might as well have another power hammer". Done deal.
  3. Michael, I have found a number of books on die making at used book stores. When I travel about used book stores are one of my favorite stops. When we did my flat die power hammer workshop everyone got a copy of Lillico. In my demo at the 1990 ABANA conference in Rouchester NY I showed the book to and said "This is the only book you need for blacksmithing". I was being somewhat facetious, sort of. When I first had the book I thought "I won't make locomotive arms what good is this". Then I saw the light and the book became the bible. Attached photos from workshop.
  4. They is a smith in NC that has a 100# LG and he took the front disk brake from a motorcycle and mounted it on the shaft in middle between the bearing housings. Used the master cylinder from the brake lever and it worked great.
  5. Right on Frank. Your the man with the knowledge. Glenn
  6. Rory, On the tapered twisted piece that attaches to the bottom of the lamp cylinder. You have a round piece on above the twist. Is this machined or different dia. rings? Thanks Glenn Tell your dad hello for me

  8. Yes I have worked for him also. I finally figure the photo deal out so I will put in a studio photo. But 1st I have to ship these heads off.
  9. I am not sure what the client will do with them. He got one from me a year ago and talked about mounting them different places in his summer home. So I don't definitely know what he will do.
  10. Here are 6 falcon heads I just finished. 24 oz copper with liver of sulfur patina. I have about 7/8" relief.
  11. It is 24 oz copper with 3/4" plywood. Folded the edges and ends on sheet metal brake and soldered the corners. All sides folded and then opened one end and slide plywood in and folded end back over. Copper goes under about 1" and is nailed down with copper clad tacks.
  12. Photo of copper table top I did with fold forming.
  13. Michael, The railing in 1st photos is steel with a patina finish. Detail of corner. Also photos of fireplace doors done in Bronze to mimic a cast bronze sconce in clients room. All bronze forged from rounds.
  14. Here are photos of my panels in the railing. Michael did a great job on the railing.
  15. Danger Dillon is the man that knows curves. Tell us more. Also good info in Peter Parkinson's book.
  16. Will 5150 work for flat cap dies on a 50# LG? Will be bolted on with ears welded to the 5160. Heat treat or will they hold up untreated?
  17. Michael, Clifton called me about a month ago and we had a long winded talk. He is a hoot. He told me he now has the power hammer tapes on DVDs. At the power hammer work shop I held last year our evenings were sitting around watching the tapes. Glenn
  18. Yes Michael, I have a 1B,working on it, a 2B and 3B that I use. I would put photos on but I have not figured that process yet. My 1B is from the 1930's-40's It is a Lobdell Nazel and the others are Nazels The 2B was made about the same time as Yellin's hammer and the 3B in the 1920's
  19. Is the sow block the height it was when new or is it taller than original?
  20. So I am talking to my blacksmith neighbor and he says he had talked to his architect and they had gotten the price on his new shop down from 1.6 million to 1.2 million. Dollars that is. He has one helper and lots of tools and they are all in a field covered up. So with he and his worker how will they pay for the new shop. I talked to my business friend and told him I didn't see how my neighbor could afford to build his shop. Tommy says that's easy. I scratch my head and say how????? Start with 2 million. This is a true story. Glenn
  21. So Michael, I was trying to upload an image of my snow machine but the site says "You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file" How do I get the image uploaded. Glenn
  22. Hello Michael, Looks like fun. When you get it set up let me know and I stop by again. Here is a photo of my new snow machine. 1B Glenn
