Would something like this be any good for blacksmithing as a fly type press? Too small? Thoughts, ideas, and opinions welcome.
www.vintageprojects/machine-shop/press-shop-2-ton.html
Has anyone built a small flypress? from what I understand there is a lot of technical details that go into one, so I am wondering if anyone has built one that works well.
Pictures and thoughts welcome. -

"A simple hold down is an old motorcycle chain. One end fastened to your anvil base, the other end has a foothold. The tensioner is your foot, the adjustability is where and which link you hook onto the pin at the base. No Harley owners close by, Bicycle chain will work." Anyone have pictures of this set up?

Anyone know who made this anvil? my guess is Vulcan but I do not know, the body is cast iron and has no markings the face is about 1/2 inch of steel that I cannot file the rebound is fair and the surface is rough. It is most likely a cheaper anvil but not quite an A.S.O. Any help is appreciated Caintuckrifle

Can someone describe to me their favorite shape/curvature a typical hammer face should have. Also how hard should a hammer face be? should I be able to just barely file? Thanks, Caintuck rifle

A farrier friend uses one of those anvils for all his shoe bending (cold) withing a couple of years the horn had grooves from the repeated bending on the same part that were nearly an inch deep. not worth the money, A.S.O. piece of junk still don't believe, check out anvilfire.com and search for aso's or cast iron anvils.
