  1. wow didn't know you could buy coal from aubuchun hardware and its only 8.49 for a 40lb bag, well anyways i am going somewhere to get coal and i will try to post it here later
  2. the first time i used my forge i used some old coal my grandparents used for a coal stove i think it was anthracite coal but that was my first time so i don't know if its better or not lol

  5. i have been using blacksmithing coal for my forge but i get it from a ways away and there is another place that sells coal closer but i think its only household coal is that ok to use in blacksmithing?

  7. um my project....learn how to blacksmith i don't really know that much and so far all i have been doing is making bolts into nails lol i either want iron or low-carbon steel for not that much money

  10. um barly understood that but if your referring smoke from the coal ok then(i first time i put the coal on and the smoke turned yellow, lol)

  12. ok so i should get Pocahontas No. 3 coal if possible? (sorry if i m a pain i just want to make sure i am right)
  13. so would it be easier to find good hard coal or soft coal for blacksmithing?
  14. what is soft coal and is it better for blacksmithing? also i live in Swanzey, New Hampshire and i think i know a place to get coal but approximately how much will it cost? i got some old coal from my grandparents(they had a coal stove) but in 1 day i am almost out i will need to get more but i want to know how much i will need to bring to get the coal. oh and how much coal should last a week or so if you work for about 3-4 hours a day and about 5 days a week? lol may be a bit much to get an estimate but any help will be great!
  15. i have only been blacksmithing for a few days(lol my forge took a while to make)but i don't use gloves seems to me its safer but if you want to use them go ahead

  18. i have seen people make nails before but i forget how to make them also i don't have a anvil i have a railroad tie that has the plate still on it that i will use for an anvil(ill post a picture in a bit), so how do you make them again? and would i be able to use the railroad tie for it?
  19. lol ok um i really am only 13 so i wont be able to do some stuff but i got my parents to allow me to make a brake drum one(finally)
  20. lol i found a few videos on youtube telling me how to make a brake drum forge which i think i will use, also think ill use charcoal(i also found a video on making charcoal for forging, ) video url The brake drum forge is 2 videos 19 minutes in length. The making charcoal is 2 videos 15 minutes in length.
  21. oh and i think i found a place but i think its closed found it on yellowpages. p.s. i have looked in the blueprints but i can find a forge design for a coal or coke forge i only found a gas one.

  25. also what kind of forge is cheaper? gas, charcoal, or coal? i would think charcoal but i don't know, oh and which is safer? :D
