  1. It would be a good deal if it is in reasonable shape,it must weigh around 400lb and with the stand, way less than a dollar per lb.
  2. A friend of mine made a long forge and he used a piece of pipe with holes drilled along the length of it.Lots of air and heat.
  3. I started out using scrap leaf spring but the possibility of stress fractures bugged me.I now buy new blanks from a local spring shop.A 5ft pc 2"x1/4 costs me $48 Can.,I figure it is pretty reasonable.
  4. Anyang hammers have hold down and single blow capabilities.I would tend to believe the Striker would as well.
  5. It sounds like it is ready, able and willng to be hammered on.Using it will get rid of some rust,80grit emery cloth will take care of the rest.Have fun.
  6. If I couldn't fix the leak,I would empty the bottle and take it back to the suppliers.
  7. I really appreciate the time you take from your busy schedule to help us up and coming blacksmiths.I will be trying your method this weekend, thanks Mr.Hofi, best regards.
  8. My latest order was delayed due to the factory and office being moved, but is at the port now waiting to be loaded on a ship.I think things are getting back to normal, usually they have been quite reliable.
  9. I started out at knuckle height but I raised my floor around the anvil so that when I am standing at the anvil my hammer face is on it with my arm extended.I find it very comfortable and I know I am getting the full extension of my swing.
  10. I went with a Variable Frequency Drive instead of a phase converter to run my 88lb Anyang hammer. It was cheaper than the phase converter I bought 12yrs ago and so far it is working great, also made in US.
  11. I have one of John's small swage blocks that he brought out to CanIron 6,it is a well thought out pattern and I use it alot.I can recommend his quality made tools.
  12. The slab I made for my 88lber is roughly 8'x8' and 18" deep. With the 500lbs of rebar I added to just over 3yds of concrete it weighs over 6500lbs.It has made a good base for the hammer, very solid. With you going down 4' I am sure you will be happy wth the results.I don't know the price of concrete in Texas but mine was $660,hope yours is cheaper.I guess waiting for the concrete to cure will seem like forever.
  13. See what kind of price Thak in Ontario could give you, excellent coal by the way.
  14. I wouldn't want to be without my horizontal bandsaw, even though it is an inexpensive model I wouldn't call it cheap.I would recommend King Canada tools,I have had good luck with them.
  15. Bryce tell them it is 60hz and 240 volts.
  16. Bryce, you need to tell them 60khz is what you need.
  17. Thanks for the info, much appreciated. Was it supposed to be hot to hammer it out???LOL
  18. Does anyone have an idea what the steel might be for an excavator rock breaker chisel? At work we got ours back from the machine shop and they had put a chisel point on it where as we wanted a dull point. It is 3in round and approx. 2ft. long.I brought it home and hammered it out on my Anyang 88lber,then finished it off with the grinder. Not knowing the type of steel I just let it cool without hardening and tempering. After a month of daily use it is hardly showing any wear,so this got me thinking it might be air hardening.Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks Steve.
  19. Get a quote from a local shipping company as they usually work in conjunction with others across the country.Kasper and I shipped a ton of coal 3000mi. for just over $600 a couple of months back.
  20. Hi Sam.When a hammer is ordered with the base it comes all set up ready to be bolted down wired up,fired up and ready to hammer. The base for my 88lb added an extra 840lb to the hammer making it weigh over 2700lb.I have it bolted down to a concrete slab which, with the rebar is over 6500lb,it is very stable.I am just getting to know mine,so far I am real happy.
  21. Hi Philip. The two piece hammers start at the 40kg weight and I understand there is more to the installation than the 1pc.I got my hammer with the factory made base and I am sure glad I did, check out the price I think you will be surprised as it was very reasonable as far as I am concerned. They are made from 20mm plate and it is set up ready to bolt down.Have fun Steve.
  22. At that price you really can't go wrong buying it,you could always get your money back down the road reselling it.
  23. I'm just down the road from Kasper on Vancouver Island.
  24. Kasper and I just split a ton of coal from Thak.It took six days to recieve and worked out to $47 for each 70lb bag.For the quality of coal you get we think it is a good deal.
