  1. oops sorry i forgothe (iceman) had a copper axe
  2. funny how crazy this place got just over a question about a... well lets just call it a czech hammer. glad some folks feel me on the whole 1/8" thing. sorry if opinions got exchanged in a coarse manner. and did you guys notice the admin used the bible as a historical reference. the oldest mummified body found in europe the "iceman" had tattoos, and no metal objects, were not sure what happend to the prostitute though. any way thanks for all the posts guys
  3. im would have to say im pretty glad i read this page
  4. sorry if it seems like there were any attachs on my behalf thats not how im trying to come off, i tend to have a dominant personality at times. my heart is always in the right place but my mouth seldom is. i kinda felt the same way at the begining of this thread, but people just have strong opinions, what can you do? so do any of the people here use one of these hammers and if so did it take getting used to or did you take right to it
  5. well the only thing that really gets me is about the guy he seems like all marketing, let me embelish. the fact that he sells a 45$ dvd on ebay on how to swing a hammer, the fact that it seems he like to credit himself for changing hammer angles, or useing the edge of the anvil for fuller. or the fact that the popular nomer is "hoffi hammer" like its his desighn the fact is its a close tie between the oldest professions. you have blacksmithing, tattooing, and prostotution. no body in any of these fields can really come up with something that hasnt been done before. new equipment can be made but new ideas in the field arent new, maybe lost to history but not new. i once heard a girl in a tattoo shop asking the owner if he thought that there were a lot of girls who might have the same butterfly tattoo, he said the same thing i just did. its soooo old and soooo many people have done it over the EONS that your a little out of touch to think that you are doing something original so i think most people (and myself) just dont like the fact that uri markets himself like that. he is a good smith though
  6. pretty cool, i would have to say thats the first time ive seen this method
  7. its not an issue of not having a tuff enough arm, ive been in construction for about 10 years. i have been blacksmithing for a year or so, and i can say for sure that of all the hammers i have ever swung none of them have ever felt as horrible as this one. i also have never swung a hand forged hammer at least not one of this weight (2 1/2 lbs) so the handle has always been dead center as far as left to right is concerned. i just want to know if its the handle being an 1/8th" off to the side or if pieh tools make crappy Czech style hammers, or if all hammers of these type are really just p.o.s. also it seems that people just have a huge axe to grind with this whole subject. this isnt the first time ive come across it. there are 15 post on here and it seems to be pretty split between absolute love and utter hate. it seems that people really hate uri and his XXX. were i went to school and learned blacksmithing my teacher had a few and 90% of the time that was what he was swinging, he loved them swore they were the best hammers. he was like me in the fact he didnt give a crap about uri or even care that he was trying to take credit for the hammer design or the "ergonomics" of proper hammer swinging. (any one would be a fool the belive he invented how to swing a hammer properly). and it seems like those who hate them really just hate uri and his propaganda. and those who like them dont give a hoot about that they just like results.
  8. its from pieh tool co its a pretty small company from what i knwo. there hand forged like most other places so prob just a minor screw up got through quality control. hope the the exchange one is perfectly balanced cause if not then ill have to hit up big blu
  9. i just got a ergo hammer from pieh tool co and the eye was drifted 1/8th" off center. it really doesnt feel right but ive never really swung a ergonomic hammer before. does anyone have any input on the subject, should i exchange it or do these hammers just naturally feel real wonky?? Post # 60 of THIS thread is shown in red. Hans138 has a hammer that he thinks has a problem. He HAS NOT contacted the seller in order to resolve the issue. Hans did not purchase an original Hofi hammer and Hans did not purchased the hammer from a authorized Hofi dealer or distributor. The thread has continued to cast shadows on the original Hofi hammer and Hofi neither of which was ever involved. This post will be added to the original post so people do not have to read 60 posts to get to this point. The topic is closed.
  10. Hi guys i just got a 90# peter wright at a steel... no pun intended.any who it looks as though its never been used in a serious shop before, the only problem is that it looks as though its been out side for 1/2 century. so i ran a grinder over a very small part of it ( dont worry i had all the weight of the angle grinder in my hand, the disc just barely removed some of the more "aggressive" rust) and it appears to have a wonderfull face under it, justm a lot very shallow pits in it. what would be the best way to smooth this bad boy out, with out harming the tempure... this is so unused that it still has the "crown" that was a factory standard on peters in there later years to help compensate for the inevitable sway you would get over a century of use. thanks again for all your knowledgeable input
  11. would you know any thing about sng, aka lng. its a synthetic liquid natural gas that can b put in propane style tanks. would that be a good option so i dont have to mess with converting to propane? p.s. grant you have been a really good help. this is my first day on here and i feel like im getting somewhere
  12. well ill be sure check check very DEEEEEP into it, im talking Marianas trench deep. i definally feel confident that the guy i got it from was really using it 2 months prior to my purchase but ca you ever really trust a stranger trying to sell you something??? on craigslist to boot? it has a 1/30hp continuous cycle blower on it, witch im used to coal forges so that sees waaay underpowerd comparatively. even compared to the gas forge i had access to at the school where i took a semester of smithing classes. would you guys have a moment to look a some detailed pic i put up tomorrow of the whole rig.?? im in no hurry to blow my self up so take any time you need grant, and any other who have a few cents to add. Thanks Hans
  13. cool thanks guys, well thats probably why i got it for 250 huh? well it has a valve where the gas comes in and a variable speed fan, and its all connected together rather competently (at least as far as i can tell) , but where in this type of set up where do you guys think i would find this gas orifice, i was under the impression that a forced air didnt really have a burner like on a venturi style. but instead the gas and air would mix in the intake line and and cause hot stuff to come out in the forge! im pretty new here as you can tell so let me know how right or wrong i am thanks Hans
