Blacksmith by preference but I still have a 'day-job' by necessity
  1. You have exceeded all expectations. Great work! Larry Moyer
  2. Looking good! How much force do you expect to achieve with the design? I'm thinking of building one to deal with 1" stock, reducing it to 3/8s or so. Might your design do such?
  3. Phil, I'll definitely put that in my plans. Thanks, Larry
  4. I'm impressed! The plans, or should I say rough and parse drawings I got, are severly lacking. Might you consider posting your plans and materials? I don't have the time to build anything very complex and seriously need one. I've considered purchasing something but the cost is a barrier for the moment. Your build is both cost effective and doable.
  5. Phil, How far are you from Joplin? I was born in Joplin and still have a cousin there. I've not been back in over 40 years. Been thinking it would be great to see him again and see some of the old sights from my childhood. Maybe that 20 hours is not out of the question.
  6. Great ideas! I particularly like the idea of the fly-press. I have been looking for an excuse to buy one but the timing and funding have not cooperated. This might be the time. All I need now do is convince my Chief Financial Officer (A.K.A. She Who Must be Obeyed -- my wife) that we can afford the investment. Thanks to all. Larry
  7. Concave with inward arches.
  8. I recently accepted a commission to build the base for a coffee table. The design calls for bark textured 1/2 x 3" flats (both sides) slightly arched at the center by 2". I have pondered a number of ways to accomplish the arch without destroying the deep texturing (which I prefer to do while flat) and none really appeal. Anyone have a great ideas that will also save my arms?
  9. I have a 4x4 table with 1/2" top that I made five years ago. It is used for everything from layout to welding, from a chalk board to lunch table. Couldn't get along without it even in my quite small space. Ideally, I would want a 4X6 with 1" top; but, space and budget make that only a dream for tomorrow.

    Inexpensive Bandsaw

Thanks to eBay and scrap metal from my stash, I have a wll functioning vertical bandsaw. Total cost was less than $180.
  11. I recently completed my build. Though I have a few minor tuning tweaks to do, it works as advertised. Quite useful for small spaces and residental areas where a power hammer is not practical. It is not a substitute for a power hammer but useful nevertheless. When I can get to my home computer, I'll post some pictures.
