  1. Post vices also vary in price here. you can pick up a 4" for $25-$50 depending on the auction. 6" ers can go as much as $200( i got lucky with mine as i only paid $35 but it has been repaired). Sean
  2. I picked up my 200lb fisher in january for about $520 at auction( $450 for the bid plus 10% fee+ tax). It was in excellent condition except some minor pitting on the horn. I have seen a 100 lb arm &hammer with severe saddling and a crack nearly across the heel go for $300( i could only read m& ha on the side). a smaller swedge block( about 60-80 lbs) went for nearly $300 and it was in worse shape than the anvil. It is very hard in my area to outbid either the antique dealers or the old timers () who seem to hoard everything( also known as the dreaded tool accumulators). Sean
  3. SWEEEEEEEET machine JR. Wish i could find one like that around here but would probably have to give them an arm and a leg and probably a few pints of blood.:D
  4. Picked this antique garvin metal lathe offa craigslist. Its in perfect shape( have to modify the tool rest to fit properly as its probably from a newer version).
  5. Watch your local auctions, especially farm auctions. I picked up a champion no. 50 blower for $5. The motor actually works just had to replace the cord. I am actually going to replace the motor with a baldor farm duty motor i have so i dont have to worry if it gets a little rain on it. Sean
  6. Yeouch!!!, Thats gotta hurt to ride that thing whitesmith! If your gonna cut the lady's lawn you are really paying for that free mower! :D
  7. Toti emul esto Is from A blacksmithing primer by randy mcdaniel. Sean
  8. Bent, I wish more of the older smiths and metal workers i have met at auctions were like you! I have met a few smiths at local auctions and always get outbid on things like stakes, anvils, and swage block by them( at two of the auctions when i was talking to them they let slip that they have about 12 or more swage blocks and still they out bid me on it) as they seem to like to hoard them. They seem to have bottomless checkbooks. Ive let a few anvils go to other smiths after talking to them and they dont have one to work with. Share the wealth!!!! Sean
  9. Picked this up today( actually got it off ebay for just over $300). Considering a new one costs about $2400 its a good deal. Every thing is there and it seems to be in good working condition( just needs a good cleaning). Sean
  10. The only way you can have too many tongs is if you don't have any room to work( and even then its questionable).:D
  11. Hi chaos, just watch your local craigslist and ebay. I am picking up a wellsaw 58b ( with wet cutting ) for about $300. This is normally a $2400 saw new. Just keep looking and you'll find a great deal. That hf saw is considered not too bad on most of the forums i have read(although you have a lot of people who hate harbor freight just for being harbor freight). Sean
  12. Why isn`t there an anvil mounted to it??????????????????????? Brian
  13. actually ive already cut some smaller stuff with it( some 3/8 mild steel cold) and it cuts pretty nice. Sean
  14. here are two things that sortof followed me home in the past few weeks.Picked up the guillotine tool off of ebay and the stake was from an auction locally. Just taking abreak right now( working on clearing out where my "new" forge is going to go).
  15. daryl, That is one sweeeeeeet anvil. Sean
  16. Maybe a delta tfs double horn? Sean
  17. Hi ev, Actually induction motors suck. You want a universal motor. The old brush motor is much more useful and generally better quality Than any new induction motor. One thing however you have to check the old time hardware stores not any of the newer ones and definitely not the chain stores when looking for something like a motor brush. they usually do carry them. Sean
  18. Well if anyone lives near brit minn, here is a good deal- eBay: BLACKSMITH CONE MANDREL W/CART -51" CAST IRON - VINTAGE (item 170125217174 end time Jul-04-07 14:36:37 PDT) Sean
  19. I picked it up from my local HF for $6 on sale. I have seen someone on ebay selling it as a spoon swage( it is the exact same one only they grind down the shaft to fit in a anvil) and it has been going for about $30- $40. Sean
  20. If it were any taller would swear that this had to be Herman Munsters headboard!:D Sean
  21. Does anyone know anyone in PABA(pennsylvania artist blacksmith assoc.) ? Been trying to join for the past few months, all i ever get from the website is the autoreply no reply whatsoever from the webmaster. Kinda frustrating. Sean
