LazyJay Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Could any one shed some light on the easiest way to make a knife/hoof pick like this. Any help would be greatly apreciated (never made/done anything like this before) Quote
Confederate Forge Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Make a T shape with a short leg, then fold the T arms back onto each other and weld? I dont see why that wouldn't work just fine. I was thinking the same thing. Thats a nice looking knife. It looks to be hand made. They call those loop knives. They work great when they are really sharp but can be dangerous. I cut myself the other day with one. Quote
ironrosefarms Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I like that loop knife... here are some other designs that might be of interest.phalenhorseshoeingsupply.com They don't have the pick integrated in them but might give some additional ideas. Quote

MetalMuncher Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 What is that knife for anyway? Horse shoeing? Quote
rdbrnr Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 yes metal muncher it is for shoeing it is called a loop knife they have gotten real popular of late most dont have the hoof pick built in them Quote
Confederate Forge Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Yes it is for trimming horses. It is very useful in trimming the frog. Which is the soft part on the bottom of the foot that looks like a arrow head. There are other single blade knives more useful to trim the sole. Quote
