This is an amazing collection of photos of steel mills, and BIG forge shops at work.

My favorite photo shows a huge 10,000 ton press swaging a chunk of hot steel about 3' in diameter. Notice the large cracks in both the top and bottom tools .

Nice link with a lot of great industrial photos, thanks for sharing.

Kind of puts things in a little different perspective.

Why aren't his clothes on fire ?

The "Banning" machine shown is a hydraulic press. For the type of work big forge shops do, the pieces shown in the pictures are fairly small and it is common for men working in such shops to wear T-shirts and cotton gloves when working on these relatively small forgings. From my own limited experience with forgings of this size, I have found that you learn how much heat your body can really take without getting hurt.

Beautiful! Thanks for the link! You can also check out Flicker.com and put Blacksmith or something along those lines in the search box for a lot of good photos.

Not a press definitly a hammer, sides we often work in singlets, so not that out of left field.
