hotrodiesel Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 I set one of my creaser's(farrier)down next a magnet and left it there overnite, unintentionally. Now the creaser is magnetized. Everything clings to it. I have made several hundred shoes with it and still magnetic. So without having to heat and re-heat treat it, how can i get it demagnetized? Thanks! Dan Quote
Steve Sells Posted December 28, 2008 Posted December 28, 2008 electronics stores sell demagnetizers. Quote
Frosty Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 You can stop by a TV repair shop and ask f they still have a degauser. (sp?) It only takes a few milliseconds per pulse so they may not charge you anything. Or you can make an electromagnet and use AC current. Frosty Quote
CarlW Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 If you do any AC arc welding you can put a few turns of cable around the tool next time you're sticking stuff together. Hmmm... might even work with a bunch of turns of reg'lar ol' 120 VAC power cord (on something that's running). Quote
irnsrgn Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 with DC welding machines, if you have the extra leads coiled seperately, when someone is welding, holding something in one coil will magnetize it, holding in the other coil will demagnetize it. FWIW Quote
hotrodiesel Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 Thanks guys! I will try one of these and see if i can fix it. Quote
