December 21, 200817 yr I would like to know where to get some tongs from. I was wanting to get a couple of those tongs that hold several different kinds of steel. (Aligator tongs maybe?) I want to get a one or two pair. Anyway if someone knows a good place to get those from let me know! Thanks!

December 22, 200817 yr Making your own tongs is great practice forging. There's several tutorials/blueprints out there for various kinds.

His prices aren't bad and shipping is reasonable I bought two pairs of GS Tongs to get me started and really like them, they are nicely made. I bought 1/2 Square Punch Tongs and the same in Bolt Tongs and find you can hold a variety of sizes and shapes with them.
December 23, 200817 yr Have a welder? A little confession of mine is that I don't often use tongs. If you're going to be doing a lot of work on a single piece then weld it to a length of bar. If you make parts from bar stock then you can use the excess lengh of material as a handle in lieu of tongs.
