ichudov
pictures and details here: misc ==> Anvil ==> Purchased any idea on who made it would be gladly appreciated. I bought this anvil at Rock Island Arsenal from a liquidation auction. They decided to auction off entire contents of one huge building, because they wanted to renovate it. This anvil is 33 inches long and weighs approximately 320 lbs. I tried to measure rebound by dropping a 1 inch diameter hard bearing ball on it and measuring how high it would rebound. My best attempts at measurement ended up with rebound at 85-90%. This anvil came with a combination cast iron/wooden base. It also had a "shelf" that can be mounted in the pritchel hole. ThomasPowers
What does it look like turned upside down? If there are no markings on the side sometimes how the base is done will indicate the maker.
rthibeau
Probably a cursed discard and not much value.. Send it to me and you won't have to worry about it anymore. I like useless military stuff.

Woody
Do a rubbing and see if you can find any markings on the side. Put a piece of paper on the side of the anvil then rub across it with a pencil or piece of charcoal. This will sometimes show what are otherwise indistinguishable marks. It looks like a keeper though.
keykeeper
Nice score, I looked at the pics on the site. Do you have any of the other side? Oh yeah, get that youngster a real smithing hammer, might as well get him started out right!:D
