Hi,

Are there any books with a deep dive on "hammer and chisel" work with great details? Its usually a couple of paragraphs on different types of chisels and how to use them and thats it, but I want something deeper. Looking for cold chiseling, hot chiseling and how to master it.

Good Morning,

The School of Hard Knocks says to Make a Hammer and a Chisel, first. Then it says to Make Chips. If you do it incorrectly, your pile of Chips become Greater and your test piece becomes too small. Don't try to glue it back together. Turn to Page 2. If you need Page 3, you didn't Learn. Start again...........

I have a half dozen books but this one has the most detailed content (mostly pictures) on all forms and sorts of chisel work bending and joinery.

very excited to receive a book but waiting time for delivery around a month.

I want to apply these skills for making mechanical work. Building robots using very old tools 

Another recommendation: Book II, Chapter 3 of Richardson’s Practical Blacksmithing is dedicated to chisels and their use.

Alexander G. Weyger in his book "The recycling, use, & repair of tools" mentioned that at the year 1916 at college of Marine Engineering in Groningen, Holland first 6 months he studied the art of flat filing and next blacksmithing. It was absolute necessary in the event of a mid ocean breakdown that the marine engineer on board ship be able to repair, in the ship's machine shop, the engine with sufficient skill and know-how to allow the ship at least to limp into port under its own steam for more permanent repairs. 

Does anyone know what type of blacksmithing they learn that time? Can we find these study materials? Was it blacksmith-engineer soft of person?

I prefer physical books on my shelve 

The books goes back to king Solomon and how people used their fist instead of hammers. 
I cannot believe it how deep this book goes
