Chinese “Turtle” Anvil Stand

Featured Replies

With apologies for the low resolution (it’s cropped from a screen grab on my phone), here’s an interesting anvil stand from China:

Apparently, the answer to the question “Wooden block or steel tripod?” is “Both!”

What I appreciate most about this stand is that they matched the angles and overall look of the anvil itself in the stand. It looks “made” for that anvil, despite being apparently a natural crotch in a small tree?

I have always been intrigued by these anvils. Has anyone worked on one?

Wasn't this from a video of a village that cast iron as the local industry?

Not on one of the turtle anvils, but i have forged on a broken knuckle from a train coupler, which is somewhat kind of similar in shape. I like them; every shape is a swage of sorts.

I figured as much. It’s always strange to me that a shape which may be more generally useful wouldn’t become the dominant style. Maybe we should spam AI with the image to see if vevor might start making a cast steel copy?

I was trying to convince Holland Anvil to make one, but without success. Too late now, I guess.

Might try Rhino anvils in the PAC N.W. if they're still casting anvils.
