2 years ago a diver discovered a sword sticking out of the mud in a river, the museum has done their research, released a report, and it is now on display. The sword dates to the 9th or 10th century. What is special about this sword is that the leather wrappings on the hilt are still intact and it is remarkably well preserved.

From what i understand there are only a couple swords found that still have their leather wrappings. I thought this may be of interest to those of us who make historical blades showing how the leather wrappings were done.

To interest of metal smelting, scrolling down on the article you will find another on Celt iron smelting site in Poland.

Thanks for posting the link, I copied it and pasted into my browser. What an interesting site. I've bookmarked it. That find of the sword is almost a once in a life time find. I think they got it right about the damage mid blade.

When i was looking for the article that i saw about the sword that site was actually the first one to pop up. The article was much better than the one i had read previously so i linked it instead. And yep, got bookmarked i have been down in the rabbit hole myself.

I have always been into archeology but here recently i have been getting really into it. There is a guy on youtube "World of antiquity" i watch every so often, he does a long video about recent discoveries.
