You probably need to leave it in longer. There's nothing magic about these things and few effective tricks.

Does it have a smallish pass through "door" so you can angle your stock into the HOT zone?

The HOT area in your forge will be pretty unique to Your forge. Find it and use it.

Thanks Frosty.   No there is no small door.  Just the two big doors on the ends.

Would the hot spot be the place that starts glowing first or is it a little harder than that to find?

Yeah, the first to heat is the hottest part of the forge.

I suppose I should add a choke to my burner.  I'm surprised no one has mentioned that.  Also yesterday I took my burner apart and inside where the nozzle attaches to the fuel line there was a piece of rubber washer impeding the flow of gas into the nozzle.

 

The next question is...where did it come from? Because it looks very much like a gas seal. A soap bubble test is advised.

Both primary and secondary burner chokes have been discussed on the Burners 101 and Forges 101 threads; secondary chokes were discussed again, just a day or so back. Various primary burner chokes have been described on the Burners 101 thread numerous times.

The obstruction was attached to the seal that was in place.  It was just barely attached and it was right in the airway.

I know chokes have been discussed lots of times.  I meant that no one suggested it to me on this thread.  A choke will probably solve my burner issue with the fire in the tube.  I'm gonna try and get parts today after work.  If not I might just make one out of aluminum foil just to see what a difference it makes.

Maybe yes; maybe no. However, better control is never wasted effort

 

I was mistaken. The mention of secondary burner chokes just got downloaded to the Forges 101 thread now.

It is just as likely to solve your problem as a primary burner choke is.

I'm talking about a sleeve that slides over the holes on the sides of the burner.  I don't know what a primary and secondary choke is.  The only one I am aware of is the one I just described. 

Your sleeve is a primary choke; it controls air flow into the burner. A secondary choke slides up and down the burner's forward end, controlling induction of secondary air (by the flame) into the forge, through the burner's portal, which that burner is mounted through.

Ah I got you.  I have seen both then.  Didn't know that the end one was also a choke.  Thanks for the education.
