His first real knife

Featured Replies

We had a great day today. My eldest son and I spent quite a while at the forge and he turned up a primitive knife which turned out fairly well. He is really please and he should be, its a good job for a bloke that in not quite 12 yet. We made it out of 3/8 mild steel rod so he could get the feel before we go to higher carbon steel. :D:D:D

Tomorrow with the little fella.

Will you rent him out to provide lessons? That is excellent for for a beginner. Looks like he is blessed with "the touch."mt

real nice knife its great seeing the young people pick up the art of smithing keep up the good work kid and just think in a few years some colector will see that knife tell you it was made at the turn of the century you can yes you would mean in the early 2000 they will say 1900 century and say its worth all kinds of money

Well done. We will be waiting for pictures of the next one !

Have him make another knife, only this time take photos and then have him explain each step. We can then assemble it into a blueprint.

Nice knife, your two sons are smiths in the rising!!!. Great job.
