victorforge Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Poor quality photo from seller but picking this up Saturday. No pritchel hole so before 1830. Mousehole style pointed feet. Handling hole on each side. Quote
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 It looks like a fine example of a colonial anvil and you have listed everything shown in the picture. Did the seller say how much it weighs? Might help to know where in the world you are located. Quote

Stash Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Where in SE PA you at? I'm in Upper Bucks, in Quakertown. My shop is always open for visits. Steve Quote
victorforge Posted February 3, 2023 Author Posted February 3, 2023 Lower bucks, Yardley to be specific. Id love to visit. Quote
victorforge Posted February 5, 2023 Author Posted February 5, 2023 Picked the anvil up today. Paid $400 for it. Only real visible marking was a "20" on the side toward the right. Weighs 100lb. Definitely deceiving size for its weight. Great shape for its age. I found a larger very similar looking anvil online. Link removed Quote
victorforge Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 Kept looking for markings and finally figured out it's stone weight. It's marked "0" "3" "20" so 104lbs. The 3 was difficult to see. I finally got a copy of Anvils in America and it seems to have similar shape to some in there. I'll wire brush to see if anything else is hiding. Quote
Rojo Pedro Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Super nice looking. Looks to have little wear. Have you forged on it yet? Would love to see more pictures. Quote
victorforge Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) I have on photo of it right now. I'll take more later. Edited February 8, 2023 by Mod30 Remove Excessive quote Quote
victorforge Posted February 11, 2023 Author Posted February 11, 2023 Little cleanup later, confirmed mousehole Quote
arkie Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Nice find. If you'd like more info on Mousehole anvils and the forge, I highly recommend the book Mousehole Forge by Richard Postman. It goes into the history and manufacture of Mousehole anvils...great reading. Every Mousehole anvil owner should have a copy. Quote
victorforge Posted February 13, 2023 Author Posted February 13, 2023 Ordered the book along with Anvils in America as soon as I bought it as i figured it was a mousehole. Quote
