November 16, 20223 yr Hello I’m new to the site and was looking for any info on a couple of power hammers I recently acquired. Specifically I was hoping to know the manufacturer dates if possible? Nazel 4B serial # 1162 Chambersburg 2CH serial # 2CH-3634 Interesting part about the Chambersburg is I had it sand blasted in preparation for repaint today and found what appeared to be the original assembly line yellow marker paint (under 4 layers of other paint) indicating #3635 in at least two places on the frame, but it’s stamped #3634. Both hammers are operational and will be put into service as soon as I can get a foundation put together for the Nazel. anyways any additional info in these would be most appreciated. Best, Tony
November 16, 20223 yr Welcome from the Ozark mountains. I'll look in a book I have, A Blacksmith's & Hammerman's Emporium to see if there is any info on them. Be tomorrow though the book is in our storage shed.
November 17, 20223 yr Author Awesome thanks, here’s a couple pics of the progress getting this sweet Chambersburg lady ready for the dance. Also I’m not sure if there is a place to add my location in my profile, I’ve looked just not seeing it, but I’m located in the Pacific NW, Oregon, Newberg to be exact and my Blacksmithing passion primarily concerns making axes. Specifically the bearded type commonly used to pillage and plunder, as well as split kindling and other household / camp chores
November 17, 20223 yr I looked through the Blacksmith's and Hammerman's Emporium. The Nazel has quite a lot of information, about all the models and history but nothing on serial numbers or dates of manufacture. Sadly the Chambersburg is not listed. You might want to Google Mark Krause (Hammer Whisperer) he is an expert on power hammers and in your area if I'm not mistaken. Edited November 17, 20223 yr by Irondragon ForgeClay Works Add thought.
November 17, 20223 yr Welcome aboard. Nice axes Tony! Bet you can’t wait to get that hammer running. Keep it fun, David

December 9, 20223 yr Author Thanks Mark, much appreciated. Pretty cool to know that its still pounding away almost 100 years after it was made…
January 4, 20233 yr Welcome from the Ozark mountains. If you send Mark Krause a PM, I would bet he has at least some spare parts for them.
January 4, 20233 yr If you're a member with NWBA, this gentelman has the same chambersburg. https://blacksmith.org/forum/introductions-come-first-right/jose-gomez-new-mexico/
