Jimmy benter
Just wondering, my neighbor is scrapping aluminum cans and we was wondering if there's any other material readily available, other than sand, in southern South Dakota where we are. Most of our trees are dying and the sand here needs cleaning Edited September 21, 2022 by Jimmy benter Sent by accident too soon
George N. M.
Jimmy, welcome aboard from 7500' in SE Wyoming. Glad to have you. There is only one way to really find out, experiment. I would be concerned about wood ash being too light to support the weight of the metal but perhaps if you compressed it considerably. What are you thinking about casting? Aluminum cans are not the best Al alloy for some applications. "By hammer and hand all arts do stand."
Steve Sells
Aluminum cans are an extrusion alloy not really for casting, also when melted you will lose most of it to dross
Charles R. Stevens
Automotive parts are cast, such as pistons, manifolds and such, avoid the magnesium under the steering wheels tho. That might be a bit dramatic.
