thinking of some names for my new forge...

1) Mjollnir's Strike
2) The Lonely Goat Forge
3) Arnell Iron Works (this is location based which i dont mind)

what do you guys/gals think?

My only thought is, if you don't mind a location based name, look into lesser known names for your area. At least around here we have communities that are older than many of our towns. I lived in place with a "Dayton" address but the community was Pleaseantdale... the latter isn't on a map but it sounds a lot better and it's real.

Or another example, we lived in a 100 year old house that all the locals called "The Grabenhorst Place". To me "Grabenhorst" is also better sounding than "Dayton". Do that kind of thing and the old-timers will like it, and the new-timers will learn something.

That's the history buff in me.

the problem is that there's not much of that in my city. brisbane wasnt really founded until the mid 1800s and the area i live in was a military barracks for most of last century. all of the "old" names are still in use today...Arnell is the name of the street i live on...and where the forge will be located.

How about "The Arnell Striker"?

Or "Aussie Striker"

What did the aborigines call the area where you live?

Something goat related would be a contender if I were to rename my smithy Deb (and hence so do I) raises pygmy goats. I've always liked "The Old Mazama Smithy" ("Mazama" being Spanish for goat) or something similar but am happy with "The FrostWorks".

Another direction is to find out what the word for goat is in the languages of your ancestors. The farther back you go in history the more creative you can be to get a catchy name.

Something to keep in mind if you're going pro or think you will. The name has to be easy to remember so either a clear memorable association is necessary or something really catchy. A catchy slogan or shop motto can do it for you too.

For instance there is a bar in Anchorage called Chilkoot Charlie's. Not so memorable in itself eh? Their slogan on the other hand, "We cheat the other guys and pass the savings on to you," has given it world wide name recognition.

My shop motto, "Stuff done with metal," isn't nearly so memorable but it tickles folk and they remember it well enough.

for sure! you wanna come? GC is pretty close...you living in the burbs? or out in the middle of nowhere? how do you deal with your neighbors?

Yes, I'm up for it. We're in the burbs, but at the in-laws for now as we only just got here. Hence no forge yet.
The plan is to get some acreage so that I can set up a workshop without annoying the neighbours too much (I hope!). However, where depends on work.

its weird...EVERYONE i know loves what i do...how could you possibly NOT? yes its not the same as plugging into sunday arvo football and knocking back a few brewskis...but ffs...its not hurting anyone...and for some (me primarily) its about fulfilling a dream and flexing some artistic muscle...
