Oldhenry1 Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Howdy, Newbie from the Pacific NW. Setting up my Blacksmith shop. I recently got a small basic Forge thats missing a tuyere and a Champion blower that is seized . The blower got water in it and is pretty rusty inside. I got it apart finally. I will be soaking the gearbox in vinegar first and ATF and Acetone later and see if I can get it loosened up enough to turn. time will tell. It has no number on it. Just has Champion Blower, Lancaster PA cast into it. I have a 100 Lb Anvil and one pair of tongs. It's a start. The picture is one like mine I found, not the actual one. Mine is a bit rougher but serviceable enough for me. Quote
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Welcome aboard... the Champion blower in the picture looks like a number 140 (many not marked) but are good blowers. I have one on an original three leg stand, which will be used with a side blast charcoal forge, if I ever get busy and finish it. Quote
swedefiddle Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Good Morning, Henry Welcome. Pacific Northwest is a large area. North West Blacksmith Association has monthly get togethers at their home Shop at Longview Fairgrounds. NWBA members are all over BC, Alberta, Washington, Idaho, Oregon. If you are a little more specific with your Avatar, we will know how/where to help/ask you to look. Neil Quote
Oldhenry1 Posted January 14, 2020 Author Posted January 14, 2020 Swedefiddle, My bad, I've edited my information. We've been recent victims of Identity theft, I'm now kind of gun shy about personal information. We spent our Honeymoon in Victoria(back before the Earth cooled). I do have a working Champion #40 Blower I can adapt if need be. Might flow more air too. I have to rebuild my outdoor forging space, it collapsed under the snow we had last year. I've been looking at propane alternatives for indoor forging but haven't made up my mind what would work best for me. There is a wealth of information here. Quote
Jasent Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 Welcome neighbor. The nwba is a great group of folks. I’d recommend getting to know them if you haven’t already Quote
Rashelle Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 I'll third the look into the NWBA comments. I'll also say welcome. Quote
vern509 Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Welcome!! I am up over the hill in Ellensburg. Made the switch to propane a few years ago and kicking myself for not doing it sooner. The only thing I really miss is being able to work on oversized and odd pieces in the coal forge. Quote
swedefiddle Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Good Morning Henry, Ron Wailes used to live on the right side of the Interstate, just approaching Ellensburg, His wife is still there . Ron packed up his ribbon burners and left for the 'Great Forge in the Sky', everyone else helped clean out his VERY FULL Workshop. The Gentle Giant!! There are a few fellow members of NWBA in Ellensburg & area. Neil Quote
swedefiddle Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Good Morning, I made a mistake, Ron was in Cle Elem Quote
KiltyAsCharged Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Welcome its nice to see another newbie starting out in our neck of the woods (Kenmore here). NWBA is again suggested but also Pratt Fine Art Center has about 6 blacksmith teachers working there and they seem happy to suggest people or nearby shops to check out. Quote
