what is an effective etchant to etch graphite? i wan to remove the graphite from substrates. if any, what would be useful for etching graphite? thanks.....

I can't help you with a graphite etchant, no idea.

If you'll click "User CP" at the top of the page and edit your profile to show your location it can make a big difference. If local folk know you're there they can invite you to get togethers, tip you to tool deals and offer hands on help.

Graphite is dissolves on liquid iron:D. Nothing else is listed in the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics. :(

Mechanical removal with a sandblaster, or bead blaster, may be your best choice.

I don't know much about etching anything, but I am going to ask any way....

why would you want to etch graphite? and what is it on? what is it you are doing that you want/need to etch graphite?

If this is a dumb question please ignore, but this idea is fascinating to me.

First time I have seen any reference to graphite outside of crucibles or pencils or a lube or nuclear reactor.
