Sjtaylor128
I just acquired a 502 pound Arm and Hammer anvil, serial number 25650. I’ve just read the Arm and Hammer chapter in The American Anvil Book but have a couple of additional questions. Is this anvil considered rare or collectible? How much would this anvil be worth if I were to pass it on? I’m a hobbyist blacksmith with a small shop and I realize this anvil would be out of place in my shop. Trying to decide what to do. Thanks for any info you could provide.
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
How much an anvil is worth depends greatly on where in the world it's located. Hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show location. READ THIS FIRST
Black Frog
Please post pictures of condition, the side logo stamp, and the serial number on the front foot!
ThomasPowers
Without knowing the condition I can say that anvil is worth scrap price to *maybe* US$6 a pound. Anvils that size are unusual but neither rare or collectable in my opinion. There are anvil hoarders that will drool over it and a lot of hobbyists who suffer from Anvil Envy, (Of course I know two people just in this state with 750 pound West anvils...)
