Darryl Dueck
Cheers to all. im new here and am stuck with completing a quote and wonder if anyone out there can assist. I need to weld 44w steel to a415 steel and understand that it may be a little tricky with both filler and process. Many thanks in advance for any info related to help. Frosty
A couple points Darryl; Not having any idea where on earth you are, a couple numbers doesn't mean anything. Seriously, do you prefer: 396, 402, 409 or? If you're asking this level question regarding electric welding and don't have the references or know where to look, you should NOT be bidding a welding job. If you live in a place where codes don't matter then why ask at all? Your reply to Thomas just loaded. It doesn't change mine. Frosty The Lucky. ThomasPowers
There are some welding specific forums on the net; I've run across them researching other stuff. Perhaps they can be more in line with your wishes?
Darryl Dueck
thanks Frosty. That's exactly why I asked this question. To gain knowledge. I certainly appreciate it. However, I have been welding for many years and have a small shop in Manitoba, Canada, Where I contract other welding from a Machine shop and they asked me to give them a quote so I thought I would broaden my horizon and do my due diligence . As well, I had no idea that it was electric welding so thank you for that as well. Seriously, and with all due respect, perhaps a bit of work on approach might just help a little. I guess we are not all as smart as yourself but again, I humbly thank you. Cheers Thank you ThomasPowers. I will certainly do that.
ThomasPowers
My go to book is Lincoln Electric's "The Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding"; but I do most of my welding with hammer forge and anvil.

arftist
I would use MG 600. It is the only wire I can think of that will definitely work. If you have some scrap pieces you could experiment with 309 stainless which might also work and would be much cheaper.
