Giaxx25
Do anyone know what are these signs on my anvil
Marc1
To me it seems 8 FEP A few more pictures of the mystery anvil, possibly provenience, country of origin, dimensions, brand, language to name a few I think there was a guy from Italy asking about his FEP anvil a while ago ... Not sure, FEP = Front end processor / Federal employee program / Fast Exchange Paradigm / FABRIKA ELEKTROPROIZVODA-FEP
Giaxx25
This is a 110 pund Italian (i think cast steel) anvil that a machinist gave me for free, he said that his grandfather used it to forge anchor destinated to small ships. I found out in some italian forums that fep was a premium quality italian manufacturer, but i can't find a single information about FEP , nobody else remember them. The 8 number represent the 110 pound/50 kilo version. I also found under the anvil what appears to be a serial number or mybe year of production ,i don't know. This anvil is hard as a rock, ball baring bounce almost 100% and the ring is so loud that it hurts my hears, edges are fine, but the surface is pretty beat up. I was asking about all the chisel or butcher marks that the body ofthis anvil is covered of. Sorry for bad English as you can tell i'm italian. Marc1
Nice anvil. Never mind the marks on the face, don't even think of grinding it flat. Just working on it will make it better slowly, depend what you do. Anchors forging! Wow, I would have liked to see that. You would expect the anvil to be much larger even for small anchors ... who knows! His grandfather's striker must have been one eyed, so many missed hit! The marks on the side of the anvil are intriguing. It was a bad habit to test the temper of chisels on the side of the anvil but those marks are rather dull and resemble more peen hammer marks than chisel ... (?) So Italian manufacturer? The other thread says it may have been Serbian. Whatever it is it will serve you well. What do you make, or intend to make?

Marzio
Hi Irondragon, I've been canoeing in Jacks Fork about 30 years ago, loved it. Hi Frosty, i thank you guys for the hospitality, i was just searching for more informations bout this darn company that seems to be disappeared before 1972. I found documents from the Senate of the Italian Republic citing Fonderie Elettriche O. Pracchi but these documents are 200, 400 and even more pages of politiches that may tell that FEP have got government grants in a critical moment for the company. I found a document from Region Lombardy, in which Milano is the main city, that talks about environmental remediation of the ex site of FEP in 2005. I found a someone selling a FEP 8 anvil for 999 €, but that's it. The guy i was trying to help selling is anvil had this beautiful old apparently 100 kg perfect FEP 12. We also tried with a ball bearing 2 cm sphere and it returns almost at the same height and the sound is very high, like a diapason. Well the old guy, he turned 91 last week, he's afraid to die and was in hurry and sold it to his grandchild for 500 €. I'm so disappointed because he could probably had make more money out of it. Frosty
I get you Marzio but the man kept his anvil in the family and got some return money for it. Hopefuly his grandson(?) will use it rather than decorate the the garden or front porch with it. Frosty The Lucky.
