Looking to get into blacksmithing in the Brantford/Hamilton area

Featured Replies

Hey guys, thanks in advance for taking the time to read this.

I am am brand new to the forum and blacksmithing for that matter, but am eager to learn. I have built myself an anvil from a piece of old railway track and am also in the process of building my first propane forge (pictures of both are attached). I was wondering if there was anyone in the Brantford or Hamilton area that would be willing to show me the ropes, or at least let me watch them work. I am a hard worker and a quick learner. Thanks again, any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for the advice, this is the first time I have been part of a forum, I'm sure it will take a while to get used to it.

Pack a lunch and a cold drink and then read Table of ContentsFind a subject of interest and read the posts. Then move on to another subject.

Remember to take the information to the forge and try it out. That way it will solidify things for you, and help you build a data base. Each trip to the forge is a learning experience.  Embrace the challenge.

You may want to look at the "improvised anvils" threads for other ideas on how to improvise an anvil---and remember that London pattern anvils have only been in use a couple of centuries whereas other types have over 2000 years of use.

Come out to an Ontario artists blacksmith association meeting and join.  There is a meeting in February in Milton. I am not sure if we are having a January meeting.  We are here in Hamilton business hours and some times on the weekend.  Not always forging but we will be tomorrow. Newman Forge & Pattern
