Justin Caradoc
Hello I have just learned smithing about a month ago. So far I have made tent stakes and a fire rake. I have wanted to learn blacksmithing for years and just now found a teacher whose idea of craftsmanship matches my expectations. I am a member of the SCA so I am going to be doing allot of recreating of medieval smithing. I am also a sculptor but working clay is boring to me right now and think metal is more my taste. I am working on building my own forge it is taking a little longer than I thought it would. If anyone finds them self in my neck of the woods please send me a PM and we will hook up. irnsrgn
Welcome Justin, FWIW, clay is a good way to learn smithing, just form some to the size of the iron material you want to work with and use a hammer lightly on it. Clay works just like hot soft metal does under the hammer.
