ThomasPowers Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 When we had an ABANA Affiliate meeting at my shop; I did the demo and then asked folks if they wanted me to do a second demo or go visit my local scrapyard---they all wanted the scrapyard visit...and then a second demo. Quote
BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 The last time I went to one of scrapyards in Las Vegas was to get some plate for a .50 cal M2HB demo. We bought 900# of plate and big I-beams for $15. They told us to stay away from the cranes and if it was something we just couldn't grab to point it out and they would get it. We got our pile together and they used the magnet to haul it over to my truck. I haven't had to go back for anything as I keep coming across tons from work, and other places I visit. I dropped off the non ferrous crap (copper, brass, beryllium copper) at the yards in Los Angeles for the shop I worked at and some of the yards had literal piles of forklifts, and forklift forks. tanglediver Posted July 21, 2018 Posted July 21, 2018 I toss leaf springs quite often. I put a bit aside recently just for the halibut. But about anvils & forging, honestly, I've broken many a cheap bench vise by cold forging, not knowing that was what I was doing! Quote
BIGGUNDOCTOR Posted July 23, 2018 Posted July 23, 2018 I love how the one guy is cooking lunch along with heating his part Quote
