Borntoolate Posted June 1, 2018 Posted June 1, 2018 A buddy of mine is giving me a champ no 40. I have two champ 400s. One I am trying to rebuild as a back up. I am trying to research if the the 40 is older or newer than the 400. I suspect older. But can anyone tell me the difference? potential age?, parts interchangeable?, flow capacity? Here is a pic. I have done several searches but have not founf anything on when things were built and how the two compare. He said it blew well and was pretty quiet. mostly a whoosh/purr of air and not gravely sounding. Quote
Farmall Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 According to my 1912 Champion Forge Catalog, the No. 40 is the Lancaster Model. Quote
Borntoolate Posted June 2, 2018 Author Posted June 2, 2018 sounds like air flow may be greatly reduced from the 400. I'll know next week. thanks Quote
sheltonfilms Posted June 26, 2018 Posted June 26, 2018 400 uses ball bearings. 40 uses bushings. Quote
anvil Posted June 28, 2018 Posted June 28, 2018 The 40 was the cheap model. The 400 was the professional model. As 2as said, bearings vs bushings was the main difference. There are more. Joey and I ran this down a few years ago. Quote
