Forge height

Featured Replies

Recently purchased a Majestic Forge 3 burner specialty forge. Now I've got to build a decent stand for it. just wondering what height you have your forge at?

Please take into account, I'm 6'5". So I'm thinking I'd like it a little taller than most.

My previous gas forge just sat on my welding table. But my smithy no longer shares space with my welding tools. Do you guys have yours set at counter height or a little higher? Right now I'm thinking about putting the top of the stand at about 40"

Also depends on what you plan to forge in it; but in general I would suggest putting it such that the floor is level with a piece of stock held level at a comfortable height for YOU!. Others suggest having it at the same height as your anvil's face so long pieces can be rested on the anvil while the end is in the forge.

If you will be doing small stuff higher can work; but I prefer not to mount it too high as that encourages people to stare into it---a bad idea!

Everything Thomas said works for us, although my wife is only 5'2 so a little lower for us. The forges at ESSA are really too tall and difficult for the average person to use, I'm 5' 7 and they are at eye level for me.

well, the stand is built, the floor of the forge sits at approximately 42". which If I stand with my arm bent puts my elbow right about a 90* angle. so I'm happy with that.
