September 24, 20178 yr So I just got a Vulcan anvil and paid $300 for a 100lb anvil. I'm guessing i over paid by a bit most likely. It is in really good condition and looks like it was barely used at all. I'm from Cincinnati Ohio by the way. If that helps at all.
September 24, 20178 yr You didn't get ripped off (going by the photos) but it wasn't the deal of the century. Respectable midrange price these days. If you are going to make money with an anvil the price rapidly diverges from the value. YMMV.
September 24, 20178 yr Author That makes me feel a bit better. I thought about a mouse hole he had as well that was 150lbs for 550 but the edges had a lot of chips in it. Nice ring and rebound rhough.
September 24, 20178 yr Nice find, it does look in great condition. There is no reason that you cannot use the Vulcan to make anything you could make on any other brand of anvil. Use it to make some money and upgrade later, or just use it as is and save the money for something else. Any block of steel can be used to make money wether is a name brand or not. Actually Vulcans are a name brand, as there were many made and sold. Use it like you stole it!!!.
September 24, 20178 yr Greetings Chief, That anvil will serve you well for many years.. The best part is it was a fair price and will be worth that if you choose to upgrade. Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
September 24, 20178 yr I ditto all these comments. Even though it may not be a top tier anvil by today's standards, it's better than what the majority of smiths have used throughout history.
September 24, 20178 yr Author Thanks everyone! I'll use this as my starter anvil for the next few years and maybe upgrade down the road. Now off to research forges and builds!
September 25, 20178 yr I've been using my 110 pound Vulcan for decades. I think you will come to love it and how quiet it is.
September 26, 20178 yr It's pretty amazing how clean the work surface is on that anvil. I will echo the "you'll come to love how quiet" it is sentiment, as will your neighbors/family.
