canedy otto blower lubrication

Featured Replies

I have a Canedy Otto forge hand cranked blower. It's a Chieftain Model.

It's been about ayear since it was lubricated.

Can anyone suggest what grade of oil I should use.

Thanks

I use a light grade machine oil that is supplied to oil swamp cooler bearings out here.  Of course we don't have problems with the cold like you may have!

For sure we have cold here in New York. In really cold weather, about 40 degrees, it takes a heavy hand to operate the crank for the first half hour, but them it loosens up.

3 in 1 works good at 50+ degrees I haven't had the forge over a winter yet.  30 weight motor oil seemed to add a bit of drag to the crank.

How much oil do you put in it? I put a FEW drops in the oil holes and it hums for several hours before wanting a few more drops. 10-40 with a little Duralube and it turns easy even in sub zero f. temps. I just don't have coal so I almost never use it. Bummer. Pouring oil in to the "fill" hole is good IF you want it spread out on your floor. Mine is a Champ 400.
