December 19, 20169 yr I got this anvil a few months ago. It's around 70lbs semi soft face 65-70% rebound it is a steel face. Had some problem uploading the pictures these were the only ones that would upload d'Or some reason. I'd like to know the maker of my anvil.
December 19, 20169 yr Well Vulcan anvils were made between 1875 and 1969 according to Postman so somewhere in there. Some Vulcan aficionado might be able to narrow it down by the indent or shape; but I don't know of any off hand...A bunch of the Vulcan's I've seen were used in public school shop shop programs and then sold off as they were shut down, (I attended Public School auctions in Columbus OH during the '90's that were selling Vulcans, odd as there were 2 top tier anvil makers in that city...)
December 19, 20169 yr Thomas, my 150# Vulcan came from a high school in Vallejo CA around the same time. It still has the inventory tag from the school district. It may be that many schools ordered tools from companies like Broadhead and Garret instead of looking locally, or simply they were the lowest cost since shop classes were typically underfunded.
December 20, 20169 yr I'd bet on the lowest cost and also less prone to shedding shrapnel if a miss didn't. Most of the Vulcan's I've tried seemed to be a bit soft on the face to me.
