It's more of a test piece as I fired up my new forge for the first time and was really just feeling it out and looking for the hot spot(s). this is just a simple striker for a flint and steel fire starter set that I mashed out of some round steel rod I had kicking around in the scrap pile. I made the echidna for our mechanic and just finished a big pipe wrench grasshopper for the bloke that gives me lots of old tools. It's nice that our work is appreciated though, isn't it? Latticino Posted December 13, 2016 Share Posted December 13, 2016 Most "steels" for flint and steel sets I've seen are made from some kind of high carbon steel and heat treated, probably for durability, though I'm not sure.
