December 6, 20169 yr hey guys, just picked this anvil up in Mexico, Mo. paid 2$ a pound i was wondering how thick the steel plate on top is? i can obviously see the line, but just wanted to make sure it wasn't a trick to make the tool steel plate look thicker than it really is. if that makes sense?
December 6, 20169 yr How heavy is the anvil? The heavier the anvil, the thick the plate. It is probably about 7/16" thick.
December 6, 20169 yr Author its 170 pounds. or at least thats whats stamped in the foot. id say its about right i haven't weighed it though. seriel number is 49,000 something.

December 6, 20169 yr I think its safe to say that the line is the joint. as far as i know a&h didn't do the fake plate line stuff. this is just my current understanding, which is always subject to change. nice anvil either way.
December 6, 20169 yr Yep. No trickery here. Fake lines was something they added to casting molds on some lower end anvils. Arm and Hammer is a top of the line forged anvil.
