October 19, 20169 yr Yes, the question is a bit off in left field for a smithing site but I was wondering if anyone here had a railroad speeder or belonged to one of those clubs that do speeder trips. The museum has acquired a speeder (fairmont) that is in need of some restoration. The speeder doesn't really fit with the agricultural theme of the museum so we'll probably be selling it off rather than keeping it. I can find some websites to start research but I was hoping that someone could recommend a good site for information on value of these things (or people with a good handle on the subject). Some people want to do a restoration before selling, some want to do a partial so it's at least running, some (including me) want to leave it "as is" because a buyer would want to do the resto the way they want. My take of the latter is because my gut feeling tells me that you don't get a 100%+ ROI on restoration parts and labor so any value increase would not be worth the effort and might actually be wasting funds/labor. However, that's opinion and I'll eventually need something more factual to go on. I don't have photos yet. The speeder was dropped off in someone's barn for now and I haven't seen it. It's supposed to be complete but you never know... So, anyone know about these things? Know of a really good source for value information or someone who might have a handle on where to limit our "fixits" for the best return?
October 19, 20169 yr I googled "rail speeder" and got pages of hits, evidently there are clubs and businesses all over the lower 48. I think a light exercise of Google fu would serve you better than asking us. Frosty The Lucky.
October 20, 20169 yr Kozzy, I met a man a couple months ago who has 3 or 4 of these things, and he loves to talk about them. He belongs to a club and goes on runs. He lives near Touchet Wa. not too far from you. I tried to buy his grandfathers anvil while there, that went over like a lead balloon. I have his name, how do I discreetly get it to you?
October 20, 20169 yr stockmaker you can send a PM (private message) on this site. Just click on his name and there will be a place that says Message. Let me know if I can help you, Wayne
