redwood
Bought this anvil off my dad, he bought it for resale, but I scooped it up because I thought it was an interesting piece. It's 5.5ft long, and about 10" at the flat surface with a dovetail kind of groove in the bottom. Anyone have any details on it? Thanks. Jim Coke
Greetings Redwood, What you have is a stove pipe anvil used in sheet metal work .. Cast iron .. It bolts onto a bench or a stake plate with a special bolt ., Mostly used for seam locking. Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
redwood
Thanks Jim. That's the info I was looking for. Will it take a beating if i forge with it? I've been using a piece of rail right now, and I was thinking of using this if I won't destroy it...
Jim Coke
Not made for forging... It will break if you use it for hot work.. Best sell it and put the cash away for that just right anvil that will come along when you least expect it..! Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
ThomasPowers
Yup they are surprisingly fragile; but working 24 gauge sheet metal cold on them with a rawhide mallet is a good use.
Mary Beth
Do you know of anyone looking to buy one?
Irondragon Forge ClayWorks
Welcome from the Ozark mountains. It would help to know where in the world you are located if you are trying to sell one. If you have one a picture or two would help. Also items for sale should be listed in the Tailgating section (after reading the rules there).
