I Forge Iron

Rail road bridge anvil

Recommended Posts

First I like to just look at the things that members here make. I am not a blacksmith and probably will never try it as I have too many other hobbies to add another one. I saw the attached ad for an odd anvil on craigslist and thought someone here might want it. It is not my anvil and I do not know the person who is selling it.

So if posting it is unacceptable please just delete my post.

I own a bridge anvil  that was made for reforging cable tool drilling bits.  Like most from that use/era it's face was pounded to bits and like a whole lot of them it was also made from cast iron. I can't tell if it was ductile vs plain.  I saw a similar one in a shop of a 5th generation smith in Stroud OK where he had flipped it over and cleaned up the base and used it as a truing plate for adjusting plow shares...I mainly use mine in the armour shop to hold stakes.
