May 6, 201511 yr I picked up a couple of anvils via a friend. The larger one is not too exciting, a cast base with a steel plate bonded to it. No maker on that one. The other one is quite old, the maker looks to be "orrisez" ? Apparently the "best warranted" refers to the forging. According the markings on the base it is 153 pounds. Would be interested if anyone knew the history on that one.
May 6, 201511 yr Author Oh OK, the "N" was obliterated on mine! Do they have any idea regarding the age and the history of the maker? Thanks very much for letting me know.
May 6, 201511 yr Does the cast one have "BROOKS" cast proud on it's side? That would not be a "who cares" anvil.Frosty The Lucky.
May 7, 201511 yr I don't care if it did have Brooks cast into the side, it is an ugly pig of an anvil;-) I wouldn't turn it down for the right price if the rebound was good, but I would likely only use it as a sledging anvil. I have this thing about ugly horns.... ;-)
May 7, 201511 yr yes, that "pig" is ugly and far from the standard shape of an anvil, but it could be VERY useful - use it like the pyramidal horn from the double horned anvils. don't think ugly-beautiful, but think about the usefulness.
