Hello From British Columbia
Hard to believe been over 2 years since I last posted here. I picked up a few more anvils along the way and even sold one to a guy I work with who needed one.

New Anvil Acquisitions!
Oh OK, the "N" was obliterated on mine! Do they have any idea regarding the age and the history of the maker? Thanks very much for letting me know.

New Anvil Acquisitions!
I picked up a couple of anvils via a friend. The larger one is not too exciting, a cast base with a steel plate bonded to it. No maker on that one. The other one is quite old, the maker looks to be "orrisez" ? Apparently the "best warranted" refers to the forging. According the markings on the base it is 153 pounds. Would be interested if anyone knew the history on that one.

I love those stands you made, exactly what I was thinking of doing for mine.

Show me your anvil
Oh yes, they are invaluable! Just when you think it has been gathering dust long enough, another use comes along! The first one I had did not fold up like this one, the folder is the way to go. :D

Advice on Peter Wright Anvil
Well it is in the back of my truck now, what a beast! Trying to think how it will get into the back yard without attracting attention from the Mrs. ?

Hello From British Columbia
OK, since I first posted here the beginning of April I have been trying to track down an anvil. With no success, I was debating buying a new one as they are scarce at best in this neck of the woods: but I thought patience might be the key? I came close on a few decent ones so I decided to keep the search going. Fast forward and today I brought home a 150 lb Peter Wright and I am picking up a 350 lb Peter Wright on Wednesday! They are bit more pricey up here, but if you take into consideration shipping or driving to pick them up in another area not so much; plus as I found the next guy that comes along will gladly pay the price! I am having so much fun looking for them it might be hard to stop? :D

Show me your anvil
Just picked up a 150 lb Peter Wright anvil this afternoon and brought it to it's new home! It used to belong to the Grandfather of the lady I bought it from, I assured her it would have a good home! :) I also got a bunch of blacksmith tongs as part of the deal.

Advice on Peter Wright Anvil
Hi back neighbor! The seller is holding it for me so I will probably picking it up Monday or Tuesday. I guess a few dings and nicks give it character?

Advice on Peter Wright Anvil
Wondering what everyone's thoughts are on this PW anvil? It is the size I am looking for (350 lb) and in reasonable condition? There is less than 1/8" sag in it. Would it be a candidate to refinish or just leave as is?

Thinking real hard on a new anvil.
Yes, unfortunately a passport it the key! We have a passport office in Kelowna, saves quite a bit of time if you come over here and do the paperwork.

Thinking real hard on a new anvil.
Hi Dogsoldat, I have been looking at getting one from south of the border as well. Shipping it to Canada is cost prohibitive, what I do is have anything heavy shipped to Orville and I pick it up there. Betta's and Ship Happens are freight receivers and they only charge a nominal fee. A lot of things have free shipping within the US, I bought a Kurt vise from Emco and had it shipped to Orville at no cost. If you just go down and bring it back you will have to pay the GST at the border. Ridgid tools markets the Peddinghaus so it is possible you could get it from someone like Grainger and have it shipped to Orville. Next time I go down for a holiday I am going to look at bringing something back, you get a $800 exemption for more than 48 hours. Hope that helps!

Age Old Question...Does Anvil Size Matter?
If my wife were to find out the actual cost though....it would be the first and last anvil....of my life!! I just find when you buy things, you always think down the road I should have bought a better one or a bigger one! I never plan to build things..they just happen so I like to be prepared!

Any Icelanders here?

Age Old Question...Does Anvil Size Matter?
Remember we are talking anvils here ... I have been looking for a used anvil without success so far. They are out there, just not close enough to think about shipping. I was thinking about going south of the border to pick one up, but then there is the cost of driving and exchange rates. A member on here suggested I talk to Renato Muskovic as he is located only a few hours driving from me in Surrey and I usually head down there once a month for work anyways. I am leaning towards a large anvil, not for any particular reason just that that seems to be the way to go to me. Coincidentally Renato makes larger anvils, 370 ish and 620 ish and the price between the two is not that great (if I buy one I am going to be in deep anyways). Just wondering what others thoughts are on this; the 300 pounder is more than adequate for anything I am going to do, but would you bite the bullet and get the bigger one?

Hello From British Columbia
I am mentioning it to everyone I know, and they think I am weird already so they take it in stride! haha A guy I work with has several in his family but he never sells anything..which he has made clear a few times! I am going to just keep plugging away, biggest thing is not to panic. Gerry

Hello From British Columbia
Hi Neil Thanks for the welcome! I would like to attend an event like that in the future but April is just too busy for me right now with work and some big events we are hosting at our Fish and Game club. Encourage that fellow from Penticton to join the site, always nice to talk with someone local. Gerry

Hello From British Columbia
Well I am a compulsive tool buyer already, so Blacksmith tools only gives me another avenue to pursue! I have a lathe and milling machine so I am always on the look out for any hunk of iron that I run across. I have been passively looking for an anvil(s) for a while now, but just seriously looking the last few months. I knew they were desirable but not this scarce. I have been kind of using the TPAAT, so we shall see what happens. The area I am in is very slim pickings, so I might make a road trip later in the year down south and see what I can pick up. Gerry

Hello From British Columbia
Just signed up today, I have been looking for an anvil and stumbled across this forum so thought I would join. I like doing metal work as a hobby and am in the process of accumulating tools for when and if I retire; while I can still afford to buy them. I always wanted a nice heavy anvil but I am discovering I am not the only one apparently! Building a forge is in the long range plans as well.
