Hello from a newbie in Kentucky.

Hi everyone. My name is Chase and I live in the Louisville, Ky area. I am 31 and about as new as new gets to blacksmithing. After watching YouTube videos for months I started a begineers class at Kaviar Forge this past Saturday. Below is a picture of the result. It is simple and crude but I have a sense of pride about that thing that I can not really explain. I am definitely hooked and can't wait to learn more. I would love to connect with anyone in the area willing to share their time and wisdom and look forward to doing a lot of reading on the forum. Thanks.

Greetings Crobb,

Welcome to IFI and blacksmithing ...  Your hook looks just fine.. You should have seen my first some 38 years ago...  You will find a great bunch of guys on this forum that are more than willing to help you along the way...  Lots of great smiths in your area so look up your local group and get busy...   I wish you well...

Forge on and make beautiful things

Welcome aboard Chase glad to have you. You don't need to try and explain the satisfaction you get from making, we all know it. Just wait till you use the first tool you make with your own hands. That's a fine hook, not crude at all.

Get used to a simple fact of life for those who make things, no matter how hard you work or how well a piece is made you the maker will ALWAYS see flaws.

Crobb, I live just down the road and there is an open invite to my forge every Sunday. That's usually the only day I can consistently make happen. Just let me know if you want to hit some metal sometime.

Crobb, just across the river in indiana we have the Indiana Blacksmithing association. The local group is the Southern Indiana Meteorite Mashers. We usualy meet the last Saturday of the month in one of our members shops. Next meeting in November is at my shop in Floyds Knobs. This will be on the Friday after Thanksgiving, for the "Smoked Turkey Hammerin" where I provide sliced smoked turkey for the lunch. Ought to a real hoot as the last 3 have been:)

You would be most welcome.to attend. PM me for directions if you wish.
